🏡 New data reveals that house prices in rural areas have outpaced those in towns and cities across Great Britain over the past five years! 🌳 According to Nationwide, the average house price in predominantly rural areas has surged by 22%, compared to 17% in urban areas. 🔹 Countryside semis lead the way, with average prices up by 24%. 🔹 This growth reflects the "race for space" sparked by the pandemic, as many sought homes with larger gardens and more room for remote work. 🔹 Tourist hotspots like Devon and the Lake District are among the top performers, driven by demand for holiday and second homes. However, some movers have since returned to the suburbs or cities. According to a Statistics Canada report on Short-Term Rentals released on July 30, 2024, there were 812 and 2,987 potential long-term dwellings (PLTDs) in Halifax and Nova Scotia respectively. These PLTDs represent short-term rental units that could potentially serve as long-term housing. However, this figure accounts for less than 1% of total housing units in the province. The PLTD ratio in Halifax was 0.4% and Nova Scotia’s was 0.67% of total housing units. The PLTD share was higher in tourist areas.

Across Metropolitan Sydney, over 1 million tenants are experiencing tenure anxiety, with more than 50% of their household income going towards rent, making it unsustainable. The Federal, State, and Local Governments in NSW have vast tracts of vacant land near 170 Metropolitan Sydney railway stations, surrounded mainly by single-detached dwellings; any sale of this public land suitable for residential use up to 50% must be set aside for inclusive, affordable housing to assist in solving Sydney's worst shortfall of enough availability of affordable rental accommodation in its history, it's a social responsibility issue. It may be time to consider immediately rezoning this land for inclusive quality residential mid-rise apartments within a 1,200m walking distance of all Sydney Metropolitan Railway stations.
