My first hand experience transitioning from academia to industry was scary. During my PhD I was really unsure what I wanted to do, and I didn't have many (female) role models in any professions. Then, when I started applying to roles in "industry" I had so many rejections and was really unsure what to do. Reaching out and developing a network on LinkedIn really helped (however, a global pandemic did not!). I now help run these careers webinars so that anyone can attend and get a better understanding of the huge variety of roles available to young scientists, in and out of academia. I think hearing from others who have these roles is so important to humanize jobs and demystify certain industries. We have an amazing panel for both the industry and academic careers panel, and I can't wait to hear what they have to say! Networking is the lifeblood of innovation, especially in the dynamic field of life sciences. It's not just about who you know; it's about the chemistry (I prefer that word over "synergy" which feels so cliched these days) that arises from shared knowledge and experiences. 🧬 In the last few months alone I connected witha large number oif people at various events but in particular I would like to note Anji Miller Ph.D CLP RTTP after attending a virtual conference put on by One Nucleus. We shared a panel together. Anji insights into both biotechnology / advanced therapies were not only enlightening, but also her passion for EDI and being a STEM advocate equally so. For me the take home was her authenticy in what was discussed underpinned by real passion. The ripple effect of a single connection can been astounding in terms of how we all look and consider things moving forwards. It can led to mentorships, partnerships, and even friendships that can enrich you professionally and personally. The key takeaway? Never underestimate the power of a single conversation to unlock doors you never knew existed. Tag a connection below and share how they've positively influenced your career. Let's celebrate the community that drives us forward in life sciences! #HRS #Networking #CareerGrowth
