MacGregor’s Post

MacGregor still shares the same passion with our founders - to develop solutions that make the sea more accessible and safe for you. In our last history post, we told the story of the MacGregor brothers who became concerned about the unnecessary loss of North Sea coal ships and as a solution, brothers Robert and Joseph developed the first steel hatch covers in Newcastle-upon-Tyne in 1929. The brothers struggled at first to persuade ship owners to change from tested and proven wooden covers but when finally succeeded in 1945, this ground-breaking innovation improved ship and cargo safety and changed the face of cargo care forever. We are proud of our heritage and still today, continue to prioritise your operations with the same innovation and safety that defined the original hatch covers in the 1920s. Our hatch covers are tailored to meet your diverse needs, offering you one of the world’s most advanced cargo systems and shaping the industry to better serve you. But who was the man behind the sudden change of sales in 1945 and another character behind what we today know as the global MacGregor company? Stay tuned for another piece of history. #maritimeindustry #cargo #hatchcovers #innovation
