Southern California Institute of Technology (SCIT) is hosting the CMIA OC Chapter with a panel discussion focusing on a vital topic “Bridging the Skills Gap - Aligning technician competencies with industry standards”

When looking back at the final day of SPE ATCE 2024, I really found enjoyment listening in to the morning panel. The panel was titled "Charting the Future: SPE Initiatives for the Enduring Success of our Members." Four great members of our industry spoke and answered questions on this topic. There was a specific point that I'd like to share. Why join SPE? Shauna Noonan, Fellow & Senior Director Global SCM Initiatives with Oxy, had a fantastic answer that I'd like to paraphrase. Her response discussed how companies get the most value out of employees. The Human Capital is broken into multiple parts: Competency, Brand, Behavior, Experience, Network, and Exposure. I see SPE events locally and internationally that fall into these categories on improving your professional aptitude each and every day. When I first joined, to me it was mainly for networking (generally with any student, that is the goal). Now, I find myself working through these boxes to find my weaknesses - and then work on improving them from free resources via SPE. Loved this entire event, very well done to the committees that put in so much volunteer time to get this to be such an impactful event.
