As we stand on the brink of a new era in #rail operations, digitization promises to #reinvent the way we think about transportation infrastructure. During my keynote address at #InnoTrans 2024 and panel discussion with leading industry experts Devina Pasta, Antonio Brunacci Lara Esposito, Marcus Voelcker, we explored the key drivers behind this transformation of rail operations, highlighting how a smarter use of already existing rail technologies can help rail companies navigate current trends. Too often, digitization and automation projects miss the human factor with regards to new capabilities and impacts on the workforce. Furthermore, silos and outdated processes hinder collaboration and obstruct seamless operations. Missed the discussion? Let me know your comments and contact me, if you want to discuss more.

📢 Meet us at the Transport Research Arena (TRA) 2024 in Dublin! MultiRELOAD unites a consortium of ports, cutting-edge technology, logistics and service providers, leading European research institutions, and well-connected networks. Their mission? To drive a profound modal shift towards sustainable transport, achieve a radical enhancement in supply chain efficiency, and promote capacity-sharing in critical Trans-European Transport Networks (TEN-T) corridors, specifically the Rhine-Alpine and Rhine-Danube Corridors. 🌊 duisport - Duisburger Hafen AG, with its international connectivity and reputation as a digital innovation trendsetter in global logistic supply chains, takes center stage in the MultiRELOAD project. Collaborating with Hafen Wien GmbH and Schweizerische Rheinhäfen - Port of Switzerland, they're leading the way in transforming inland ports into carbon-neutral hubs. This transformation involves rigorous testing, demonstration, evaluation, and rollout of highly innovative multimodal freight solutions across seven distinct demonstrations, each falling under the three thematic innovation areas mentioned above. 🤝 The MultiRELOAD project calls for the establishment, implementation, and evaluation of demonstrators by regional consortia. These groups consist of port authorities, operators, technology and service providers, and research organisations. The result? A significant boost in flexibility, service visibility, and an impressive average cost reduction of freight transport by approximately 10%. 📚 MultiRELOAD's solutions will progress towards solid business plans and models, setting the stage for widespread adoption, and thereby enhancing the overall market maturity. The project leverages the expertise of two established business incubators, startport GmbH in Duisburg and thinkport VIENNA - smart urban logistics, to nurture new services and startups focused on intelligent multimodal solutions. 🧠 But the innovation doesn't stop there! MultiRELOAD actively involves a wide array of end customers, including logistics service providers, freight forwarders, and cargo owners, through the MultiRELOAD User Forum. Their involvement ensures that these groundbreaking solutions are market-ready and meet the needs of the logistics industry. 🙌 Join us at the Transport Research Arena (TRA) and find out more about the achievements of this groundbreaking project!

📢 On Tuesday 24th of September 2024, Terminal Industry Committee 4.0 - TIC4.0.0 and Boston Consulting Group (BCG) offered an insightful panel discussion at the Port Technology International - PTI #Smart, #Digital #Ports of the #Future conference in Rotterdam! Experienced industry leaders exchanged their views and commented on the matter of ‘Benchmarking the Digital Journey in Ports and Terminals: Where is the industry today?’. The panel was introduced by Korenkiewicz Dorota from the Boston Consulting Group, who opened the session with a presentation of preliminary results obtained from the #Ports #Digital #Benchmarking initiative, currently under development and open to all interested terminal operators. The benchmark methodology includes 3 qualitative surveys targeting terminal professionals, CIO/CTOs, and CEOs, which results will be shared through presentations, reports, and interactive dashboards, enabling participants to benchmark themselves against the industry average and to obtain detailed insights about their own digital maturity. The preliminary results indicated that: ✅ Port industry digitalization across different processes is still in isolated solutions, confirming there's room for improvement. ✅ Current digital maturity leans heavily on TOS and Process Automation, but opportunities lie in Machine Automation and Data-Driven Intelligence. ✅ Larger terminals often struggle with broader digitalization, despite having advanced TOS systems. ✅ Transhipment terminals can enhance digital connectivity across supply chains, while gateway terminals excel in connectivity with hinterland stakeholders connections. If you are a port terminal operator and would like to participate in the Ports Digital Benchmarking initiative, do not hesitate to contact Korenkiewicz Dorota (BCG Knowledge Expert and Team Manager) or Boris Wenzel (TIC4.0 President). #DigitalPorts #DigitalTransformation #Innovation #WeTalkTIC
