Our Ethos Award is an annual culture recognition that celebrates exceptional people with exceptional rewards. “The goal of this award is to drive a high-performance culture tied directly to our Ethos”, explains Andrew Theado, who manages the program. “Throughout the year, eligible employees nominate a colleague or group of colleagues for the award. Each month, a cross-functional selection committee reviews the nominations and names one Ethos Award Winner, as well as two runners-up. At the end of each fiscal year an overall winner is named and receives a company spotlight as well as a monetary reward.” This year, more than 550 Cengage Group employees voted and determined that Steve R., Maintenance Mechanic Electrician, deserved the title, ‘2024 Ethos Award Winner.’ Join us in congratulating him! Today marks the start of VINCI Energies and Actemium UK's Safety Week. Each year we focus on a particular theme to consider, reflect upon and share our thoughts to encourage improvement in a particular area. This year's theme is saying "STOP", but what exactly does that mean, and what do we want to achieve by encouraging it? Those that know me know of my military background, and in the services there is a common saying that originates from 19th century strategist Helmuth von Moltke - "No plan ever survives first contact" i.e no matter what best laid plans you have in place, it is likely that some unforseen event or variable will arise that requires a pause to reflect and rethink your strategy, often half way through your plan. This is, unfortunately, as true in my current employment as it was my old. It highlights the importance of taking pauses to reflect on whether everything going on around us is as planned, expected and if not, recognising that and taking the steps to ensure we are working safely. Having a culture that all Actemium employees, from the highest Director to our newest apprentice, can feel empowered, supported & confident to say "STOP" & reflect when they are unsure of any aspect of their works is vital. By adopting this approach, we ensure that we are protecting ourselves and our colleagues to our utmost ability, no matter what we encounter, which is ultimately what is most important. I look forward to spending the week travelling the country and seeing you all at local Business Unit events. Stay Safe.

The Journey to Becoming a Special Operations Technician As the collision repair industry evolves, vehicles are becoming more advanced, and the demand for professionalism is higher than ever. To meet these challenges, we must elevate how we find, train, and support talent. This means identifying the right people, providing them with structured training, equipping them with the tools to succeed, and helping them become subject matter experts. While not every practice described here can or should be implemented across the board, there is one takeaway that stands above the rest: anyone in a leadership or support role must spend time on the shop floor. Understanding the daily challenges and demands technicians face is the foundation of effective leadership and meaningful support. This connection is what drives success, teamwork, and long-term growth in the industry. https://lnkd.in/e7tTDVgQ

In our autumn IPC team meet up at Expedition Engineering Ltd we explored our skillsets using the Global Responsibility Competency Compass self assessment tool which is being tested by Engineers Without Borders UK . The tool is based on their Global Responsibility Competency Compass report which they launched last year which identifies the knowledge, skills and mindsets for engineers looking to have a positive impact through their work. You can see the results of my self assessment in the compass diagram in the image. What does it say about me? I'm not sure and perhaps it would say something else on a different day. But I do feel like it highlights the areas I am looking to develop more in my work. Mainly for me though, it was about the process of asking myself the questions and taking a moment to think and reflect about my work and purpose. I would encourage you to have a read of the report and explore the questions in the self assessment tool. If you're feeling brave then share them too! As many may know, the skills training required to become a technician can be a long and demanding journey. This presents a challenge for the automotive industry in developing the next generation of technicians. To address this, NJCAR is piloting a revolutionary training program at Daytona Toyota, which we call the Technician Advancement Program (TAP). TAP is an 18-week, in-dealership hands-on boot camp that equips students with the skills needed to become entry-level technicians. Unlike traditional training platforms, this program reduces the commitment typically required to transition to a career as an automotive technician. It also offers a balanced combination of classroom instruction and hands-on experience, promoting practical methods for ensuring success. Currently, we have a cohort of 10 students, and we are in our seventh week of training. We are observing that the confidence gained through hands-on learning is paying off. As the weeks progressed, the students built their confidence in various routine dealership tasks, including: - Properly performing and document a Multi-Point Inspection - Mounting and balancing tires - Performing a four-wheel alignment - Replacing brake pads and rotors - Testing, recharging, or replacing batteries In addition to technical training, we are also focusing on employment readiness by helping students prepare their resumes and practice for interviews.

As early career engineers embark on their engineering career journey, there are many opportunities to pick up knowledge to contribute and perhaps eventually lead. Aside technical knowledge, two most important knowledge are operations and financial knowledge. These 3 knowledge are key to safety, quality and sustainability of businesses. I encourage early engineers, do find time to pick up these knowledge as you contribute in your role and work!
