#LnDWisdom no. 11: If the #Learning product that you are asked to build will only be used once and only for a select number of people, it most likely isn't training. It is more likely to be education, not training, if even that. It most likely doesn't need to be an Instructor Led course. It most likely only needs to be a job-aid or an email update. Remember this the next time someone says "we need training" to fix a thing or to introduce a non-systemic change to a tool or process. #InstructionalDesign #LeaningAndDevelopment #LearnignStrategy

Here are the results from a recent poll. It seems that most of you think that the effectiveness of training depends on the quality of the training, but almost 1/5 are pessimistic about how effective training is. My favorite trainings to attend have included actionable tips and were super easy to put into practice right away. So, when I design training I try to give the same types of opportunities to my learners. What do you do to make your training effective? #training #instructionaldesign

What are the core skills required to be an evaluator in a complex system setting? Personally, I have found the essentials include; - An in-depth understanding of evaluation methodology (and the creativity to adapt depending on context) - Tools and techniques for agile project management (checkpoints are so important, as is the willingness to pivot if necessary) - Strong engagement skills and the ability to listen (which helps to establish evaluation questions which are meaningful and elicit context which ensures your findings are relevant) - Workshop facilitation and the ability to enable active participation across all relevant stakeholder groups - Logical and visual communication whether using a framework approach or sharing learning from evaluation findings - A healthy dose of pragmatism (although often only learned through experience) Are there any more?
