Baby Loss needs to be high on the agenda for this new Government! Next Tuesday, Tommy's and Sands - baby loss charity are co-hosting an event in Parliament. This is a very important step towards raising awareness and engaging policymakers directly. For far too long, this issue has not been high up enough on the political agenda and for far too long, we've seen the same mistakes occur time and time again in maternity care. Some of the clinical negligence team at Tees put together a report into stillbirths and neonatal deaths from 2019-2022 following an FOI request. Our report highlights the harsh realities of just how far maternity services are from acceptable levels, and reinforces the urgent need for reform in maternity care. I would encourage all of my followers to contact their MP's and ask them to attend this very important event. We need to amplify the message loud and clear if there is any hope of creating lasting change. Too many lives have already been lost and destroyed. #stillbirth #neonatal #maternitycare #maternityfailures #clinicalnegligence #medicalnegligence #babyloss
A record number of 335 new MPs were elected at the general election in July. Next Tuesday, 5 November, we’re co-hosting a special event in Parliament. The event has one clear aim - to make pregnancy and baby loss the political priority it needs to be. This is an important opportunity to share our campaigns with the next generation of MPs, amplify your voices, and show how our research is saving babies’ lives. We’ll be joined by our friends at Sands, as our Joint Policy Unit presents the latest data to MPs about saving babies' lives in their constituency. It's vital as many MPs as possible come along which is why we need your help. Write to your local MP and ask them to attend our event and meet our experts, as well as parents who’ve experienced baby loss. Find your local MP and email them here: https://bit.ly/40qzLIL

It was an honor to hear Esa M Davis, MD MPH FAAFP share her powerful story at the “Mitigating the Impact of Racism on Maternal and Child Health” event. Her journey through postpartum heart failure highlighted the systemic barriers Black mothers face—barriers reflected in Maryland’s alarming maternal mortality rate of 21.3 per 100,000, with 80% of these deaths preventable. 📊 The facts are clear: Hypertensive disorders and systemic racism are major contributors. 💡 The solution is clearer: Evidence-based interventions like blood pressure screenings during pregnancy can save lives. Health equity means ensuring every mother has a fair chance at a safe and healthy pregnancy. Together, we can build a future where no mother is left behind. 🤝 #HealthEquity #MaternalHealth #EndDisparities #CommunityCare

Black mothers have the highest maternal mortality rate in the U.S. They are nearly 3x more likely to die from pregnancy-related complications than white mothers. This is why #BlackMaternalHealthWeek matters. We know why Black women have higher rates of death during and following pregnancy: structural racism and systemic barriers to care. The U.S. MUST prioritize Black maternal health by: 👩🏽⚕️ Increasing access to quality, culturally competent care for Black mothers 🤰🏽 Expanding Medicaid postpartum coverage to 1 year and covering doula services To Black Mamas, You deserve to: 💙 Be listened to 💛 Have your health and wellbeing honored 💜 Access to equitable, high-quality care Source of stats: CDC #BMHW24 #BlackMamasMatter

"Safe motherhood is a fundamental human right that every woman deserves. Yet, thousands of women around the world, especially in underserved communities, still face preventable risks during pregnancy and childbirth. To change this, we must work together to ensure accessible, affordable, and high-quality maternal healthcare. Promoting safe motherhood requires an integrated approach: education on family planning, adequate prenatal care, skilled birth attendants, and emergency care services. When women are empowered with the information and resources they need, we not only protect mothers but also nurture healthier, more resilient communities. Let's commit to creating systems and policies that prioritize maternal health and make safe motherhood a reality for all. #SafeMotherhood #MaternalHealth #PublicHealth #HealthEquity #SDGs"
