#Georgia 🇬🇪 At present, #Russia🇷🇺 finds itself grappling with distractions and challenges on multiple fronts, both domestically and internationally, leaving it less focused on external affairs than ever before. This unique moment of distraction provides an opportune window for #Georgia🇬🇪 to assert its sovereignty and break free from the chains of subjugation. Internally, Russia faces a myriad of issues ranging from economic stagnation and social unrest to political discontent and demographic challenges. Domestically focused on addressing these pressing concerns, the Russian government's attention and resources are stretched thin, potentially reducing its capacity to exert influence over neighboring countries like Georgia. Externally, Russia is entangled in various geopolitical conflicts and tensions, including its involvement in Ukraine, disputes with Western powers, and managing relationships with other regional players. These external engagements further strain Russia's resources and divert attention away from its immediate neighborhood, creating an opportunity for Georgia to assert itself more assertively. For #Georgia, this moment presents a #strategic #opportunity to pursue greater independence and assert its sovereignty on the international stage. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, is on his way to Norway to meet the government and royal family 🇦🇪🇳🇴 🚨The Norwegian government must call out the UAE on its extensive and egregious human rights abuses❗️ The UAE actually has a soft power strategy that “aims to increase the country’s global reputation abroad”. How? ➡️ humanitarian diplomacy ➡️ national representatives diplomacy ➡️ cultural and media diplomacy ➡️ economic diplomacy (And more) 🌇It has successfully built its brand and polished its appearance through diplomacy, hosting big events, inviting tourists to promote it in social media, buying sports teams and more. ⛓️It has become very confident and doesn’t shy away from its most repressive actions even when the eyes of the world is on them During #COP28 it launched a mass-trial against 84 accused which ended w/sentences against 44 human rights defenders/dissidents Deputy Minister Kravik confirmed that Norway will raise this issue and concerns around anti-terror legislation 👏🏻 We expect Norway to transmit that message forcefully 👷🏾♂️Norway’s government is lead by the Labour Party, Arbeiderpartiet, which, along with Senterpartiet, has stated in its government program that labour rights is important The UAE must ➡️ Allow unions ➡️ Establish fair minimum salaries ➡️ Improve workers’ conditions ➡️ Punish abuse Migrant workers make up about 8,7m people and 88% of the population. They are extremely vulnerable due to the abusive labour regulations stemming from the kafala system, which should be dismantled. The UAE must also stop arbitrary detentions and illegal expulsions of migrants. 🤷🏽♀️ Women’s rights depend on who you are. While the UAE has joined the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, it has reserved itself against provisions it deems in conflict with Islamic law, thereby undermining its commitments. 🏳️🌈 The UAE criminalizes LGBTIQ+ people and those who campaign for their rights. Moreover, it has criminalized a range of vaguely defined actions such as “public displays of affection” which can be weaponized against LGBTIQ+ people. 🪖 Amnesty International also found that recently manufactured or recently transferred weapons and ammunition from a range of countries, including the UAE, are being imported in large quantities into Sudan, and then in some cases diverted into Darfur.
