Last week GHD was a key contributor to the Future Energy Asia Exhibition & Summit Conference in Bangkok, which hosted numerous #FutureEnergy -focused organisations from Southeast Asia, the subcontinent and the ANZ region. As Asia accelerates its decarbonisation efforts, the deployment of future fuels becomes essential –which is in-turn, critically dependent on the readiness of port infrastructure. At the conference, I had the pleasure of presenting GHD’s key research findings on “Future Fuels Infrastructure Readiness” for ports in the Southeast Asian and ANZ region. Decarbonising the transportation sector is a global challenge but also presents an exciting opportunity to design and build #sustainableinfrastructure for our communities, while we work together to reduce the impacts of #climatechange. Our presentation offered a comprehensive analysis of key port assets and the factors influencing #portinfrastructure development, providing valuable insights and helping to inform investment considerations. Thank you to Elise Cameron and Elssa Chua Keasberry for their significant contributions to this work. A notable theme at the conference was the ‘transition cocktail’ of traditional and emerging fuels and electricity and their role in driving decarbonisation. Asia Low Carbon Building Transition (ALCBT) Project Invites Technical Experts for Greener Buildings Bangkok, Thailand, March 12th, 2024 GGGI Thailand hosted Thai and English online introductory meeting for the ALCBT Project, attracting a broad range of stakeholders from the public, private, and academic sectors. These stakeholders included national and international green building, energy efficiency and green investment experts. The introductory meeting focused on introducing the ALCBT project and its governance structure, including the Project Steering Committee (PSC) and the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) to be formed under the project in Q2/2024. Stakeholders were invited to join the TAC, fostering a shared understanding of its roles, responsibilities, and the benefits of participation. The ALCBT project kicks off with this virtual event, uniting stakeholders across the region. This collaborative effort aims to integrate low-carbon building tools and energy efficiency programs through policy changes, demonstration projects, and capacity building initiatives. The introductory session highlighted the crucial role of the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) in reviewing criteria and methodologies for piloting low-carbon tools, recommending sub-national locations, assessing baseline estimation methods, customizing tools, reviewing training module content, evaluating the approach to developing a Green Finance Network and Green Public Procurement, suggesting media outreach content, and proposing ways to establish stakeholder networks for investment pipelines and ESCO mechanisms.. Participants, recognizing the value of the TAC for their organizations and its importance in contributing to the project's goals, expressed keen interest in joining this vital advisory body. Mr. Soumya Prasad Garnaik, Project Manager (IKI-ALCBT) and Asia Regional Lead (Energy Efficiency) mentioned that "These five countries already have regulations for energy-efficient buildings, like building codes and conservation standards. But we're looking beyond those. We want to focus on low-carbon building materials and construction practices. This could involve integrating low-carbon design into new buildings and major renovations of existing ones with green financing mechanism. Ultimately, we aim to establish standard metrics to measure and improve the low-carbon performance of buildings." Following this successful event, the ALCBT project will finalize the tentative list of TAC and convene its first PSC meeting in May 2024. The PSC review and approval of the TAC will mark a significant step forward in this collaborative effort. #Asia #lowCabon #buidings #transitions #gggi #IKI #energyefficiency #energy #ESCO #green
