Just yesterday, I had an eye-opening conversation with a brand's marketing manager that I believe many in our industry need to hear about. 🤔 The manager approached me for an influencer marketing campaign. When I shared our standard rates, they countered with an affiliate program offer - a share of profits from products sold directly through my reel. I politely declined. Why? Because this approach fundamentally misunderstands the true power of influencer marketing. Here's what I explained to the manager: 1️⃣ Reach is King: Marketing is primarily about reaching the right audience. Sales are a downstream effect. 2️⃣ Brand Awareness: A single reel might not drive immediate sales, but it plants seeds of brand recognition. 3️⃣ Trust Building: Influencers lend their credibility to your brand. This trust is invaluable and often leads to future sales. 4️⃣ Content Value: Professional influencer content can be repurposed across multiple channels, extending its value beyond the initial post. 5️⃣ Long-Term Impact: The effects of influencer marketing often manifest over time, not just in immediate conversions. The manager's perspective - "How can we pay this amount if we don't see direct sales?" - is common but shortsighted. It's like saying, "Why should I pay for a billboard if I can't track exactly how many sales it generated?"
