Every day when I open LinkedIn, I come across internship opportunities that seem incredibly beneficial for budding psychologists. These internships could really enhance one’s journey, particularly when the curriculum demands practical experience. However, when I was studying for my Master's which was not too long ago, the emphasis was heavily on counseling psychologists typically ending up in schools. While schools are undoubtedly a common path, I feel we missed out on exploring more diverse internship options available on platforms like LinkedIn. My own internship experiences were incredibly valuable and taught me so much, but I can't help but wonder why we weren't encouraged to research broader opportunities that could give us exposure beyond just school settings. 🧐 #psychology #internships #interns #counselling #opportunities #psychologist #growth

"Desperate tales of internship hopping" Imagine this: a clinic designed for 5 interns is now cramped with 15. With over 2,000 students from both bachelor’s and master’s programs vying for internships, the chances are bleak. There are perhaps 25 to 30 clinics and hospitals offering internships, and that’s being generous. Shockingly, half of these establishments operate unethically. Each clinic can only take around 20 interns – so where do the rest of us go? As I step into the second year of my MSc in Clinical Psychology, the urgency for practical exposure has doubled. Fresh off a summer internship, I find myself in a frantic race from one clinic to another, only to discover my batchmates have already secured their spots. The competition is fierce and overwhelming. The costs are skyrocketing, and finding a legitimate mental health clinic feels like searching for a diamond in the rough. The course curriculum leaves no room for delays, excuses, or unavailability, adding to the mounting pressure. I’m certain this struggle resonates with all psych students. We're too busy internship hopping to talk about it here. Anyway, here is a view from the college windows. . . #psychologyinternship #psychologystudentbangalore #bangaloreinternships

What do internships give you? reflection post As a social science student I remember my first Internship in an NGO which works with slum dwellers and their empowerment. I think Internships are years where you learn to see yourself in a larger context. The question where I fit and what my role is also starts cropping up. Learning about Corporate social responsibility as a bridge between social science and the corporate world. along with learning that a reductionist approach towards life is not the solution. This is where my second internship taught me to be a Mental health advocate and helped me discover that scientifically Correct information can be given in layman terms. My second internship also helped me develop activism. My third internship started moulding me as a professional in terms of how much time should be given to the patient and caregiver. Along with the use of the Inherent ability of Vocal music and love for art in clinical settings. my internship at a de-addiction centre taught me what not to do. This led to the professional cum Advocate approach get balanced. While my Internship with the Bharosa cell taught me that community integration is an important aspect for better mental health. Finally again narrowing down with Substance abuse as focus of internship my final internship at Muktangan taught me to realise that whole is greater than its parts. All this exposure gave me three distinct lessons 1) learning about the idea that it is ok not to narrow down in terms of core interests 2) Take life one day at A time 3) look beyond self

This is What I've learned during my internship at A semi Govt.Hospital. (AVBRH) Listing out few points here that I personally feel are relevant. 📌Humility: First and foremost, it's the most important asset in all the workplaces I've been to. You might possess an incredible intellect, and loads of knowledge, still always be ready to learn. 📌Spend initial 3-4 days totally for observation: One of my college professors taught us this; that when you're new to a workplace, observe the culture of the place in 1st week and then act upon your plans and aspirations. 📌Make a weekly list of what you want to derive from the internship, and if it's a paid one, keenly observe what the authorities expect from you other than what they've explicitly mentioned. And act upon it respectively, while keeping in mind to balance between what you're giving and what you're taking from the organisation. 📌Administer as maximum as Clinical tests you can: Actively engage in administering tests such as Rorschach, MMPI, MCMI, Bender Gestalt,TAT, and other's. 📌Do whatever you can NOW, instead of waiting to be perfect: Use whatever knowledge, skills, and assets, you've acquired in a mindful way. Waiting to get perfect at something and then doing it is just nonsensical (while writing this post I still feel it could've been better ;) but waiting for it to be PERFECT is getting me nowhere 🥲) 📌Never Practice Catharsis on patients who've just experienced an episode of any specific illness: in such cases if you do Catharsis it just reminds them of everything all over again. which might be detrimental when they've experienced it recently. ( this is what the clinical psychologist suggested ) beyond excited to hear YOUR suggestions and experiences from internships ✨ #psychology #internships #mentalhealth

Summer Internship & Discovering My "𝑵𝒐𝒕-𝑺𝒐-𝑷𝒆𝒓𝒇𝒆𝒄𝒕" Psych Match 📚 - As we approach the internship season, I wanted to reflect on my experience from last summer at St. Stephen's. I wrote a whole post about the learnings and reflections then but there was one crucial takeaway I didn't mention – and it's actually the most valuable one. 📌 Turns out, clinical psychology isn't quite the path for me..I was soo excited about the start of that internship, but after a week I wasn't active or productive(Thought it was summer time sadness heh :)). The overall experience was amazing as it helped me realize my true interests lie elsewhere. This insight however didn't help me decide what I wanted to do , but gave a little clarity about what not. Now, I'm excited and actively seeking out to explore the world of counseling and organizational psychology. This might seem like a detour, but sometimes the most important discoveries come from unexpected turns. Here's to embracing new possibilities and following the gut feeling! 💌 #psychologyinternship #Clinicalinternship #Reflections
