Meet Stuart Herskovitz, Qosina’s founder, Chairman Emeritus and pioneer of providing off-the-shelf components to medical device developers. In 1980, Stuart had a vision: to make it easy for engineers to get their product to market quickly, so he introduced the concept of offering free samples for testing and evaluating, a business model we still use today. 🔹What inspired you to start your own business and create Qosina? I had a very successful position as Senior VP of Corporate Development of the leading barium enema manufacturer in the world, and I was charged with producing new business ideas in the medical industry. I was working 16-hour days and traveling constantly, and I said to myself, “If I’m working so hard, why not do it for myself?” It wasn’t to get more free time (I worked even harder and traveled even more!), but I was doing so to build a future for my family. I thought I found a new market with unmet needs, but the owners I worked for at the time thought it was “the stupidest idea they ever heard of.” However, if I quit, they would let me take the idea and I could sell those products as my own. 🔹What’s one thing you’ve learned in your career that you can share with other professionals? "Cash is king!" Even if you have receivables and successful sales while building a business, you still need cash to pay salaries and suppliers. You can outgrow your cash flow because of having good sales. 🔹What’s the best book you’ve read recently? Freakonomics by Stephen Dubner and Steven Levitt. My undergraduate degree is in Economics, and I am fascinated by their perspectives. 🔹What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
