“Ozempic pens need and come with pen needles. *Victoza and Saxenda pens need pen needles but do not come with them*. Wegovy, Mounjaro, and Zepbound pens do not need pen needles.” You NEED needles for Victoza and Saxenda. You don’t need 100ct necessarily. Today I have a simple message: If you have a retail or hospital pharmacist in your personal or professional life, then you have access to an unsung hero. Use them. Thank them. Respect them. I've been out of retail a little over a year now, but here are the callouts and questions I've addressed for providers this week alone: - The new Zepbound vials do not come with administration equipment. Needles and syringes also need to be prescribed. - Yes, there is a "flavored" metformin. It's blackberry flavored, and Mylan and Ascend are two of the manufacturers that produce it. - If a patient doesn't know their warfarin dose, you can ask the color. They're universal. Same with Synthroid/levothyroxine. - Ozempic pens need and come with pen needles. Victoza and Saxenda pens need pen needles but do not come with them. Wegovy, Mounjaro, and Zepbound pens do not need pen needles. - Continuation of care documents need to have med reviews to check for therapeutic duplication, at minimum. Hospitals will start alternate medications if they don't stock the one a patient came in on and sometimes forget to discontinue it at discharge. Are you using your pharmacist(s) as a trusted resource?

Asia-Pacific Part II: Role of Community in delivering healthcare The Pharmacy Guild of Australia holds a symposium every year and this year their annual meet was joined and addressed by Novartis ANZ's Country President where they talked and discussed about how together with pharma companies and community pharmacies, they can strengthen the healthcare ecosystem in Australia. To understand the magnitude of impact of community pharmacies in Australia, there are almost 6000 pharmacies which dispense about 250million prescriptions annually to patients under the Federal Government’s subsidized Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) through which medicines are provided to all Australians at same lower prices, irrespective of where they live. This points out the significance of community healthcare in delivering care to patients. Collaboration of big pharma with the pharmacy society of Australia shows that there lies huge potential to make medicines accessible to everyone through a strong community network. Even patients would always prefer to receive best possible care and treatment in their own community settings. Large national hospital and care centers are always over-burdened and if treatment becomes concentrated at these large centers only, it will increase healthcare costs and create even more burden. Focusing on growing and strengthening community care network should be the next big focus for pharma companies and governments alike.
