At Maritime DTU we support innovation and students in the maritime area and we are thrilled that DTU students Gabriella Szabó, Nikolas Vitaliti, and Sebastian Pieters won second place at DTU's student conference Green Challenge, where students present sustainable projects to businesspeople and others, and in record time created a prototype for a product that - if all goes well - could make the shipping industry greener. The product is an antibacterial coating that is applied to the underside of boats and ships. It prevents algae from sticking to the boat, creating less friction and, therefore, less fuel consumption. The coating is non-toxic, which is extremely important when it is in constant contact with seawater. Read more about it here https://lnkd.in/dHM8TUXX DTU - Technical University of Denmark

📣 New project alert! Bringing circular economy awareness and understanding into schools is the first step towards a truly circular future and resilient society. That's why our new project 'Fit für Circular Economy' will see our team partner up with two vocational schools in Berlin to create a tailored-made program on circular theories, strategies and practices in the food and construction industries. Schools recognise the importance of circular literacy for their students. However, few specific courses on crucial topics - like resource efficiency, reuse, recycling and zero waste approaches - are integrated in schools' curricula today. With the support of Fachhochschule Potsdam and IHK Berlin, we aim at filling in this gap and equipping students with the skills needed for a future-proof career. For our team, this is a first exiting step into making circular economy courses the norm in Berlin school systems. Would you like to know more about our mission? 👀 Check our project page to stay up to date: https://lnkd.in/dFRZeyCV 🚨 We are currently looking for more schools from the construction sector and companies from the food and construction sectors that are already working in the circular economy and would like to share their experience and knowledge as part of the project. Please reach out directly to education@circular.berlin Senatsverwaltung für Wirtschaft, Energie und Betriebe #circularberlin #circulareconomy #berlin #bildung #Kreislaufwirtschaft #Ausbildung #Lebensmittelbranche #Bauwesen #BerlinerWirtschaft

🚗💨 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗴𝗼𝘁 𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝘁 #InstitutoSuperiorTécnico! 🚘 💧 “𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗿 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸”. This was the most heard sentence in #InstitutoSuperiorTécnico’s Great Hall 🇵🇹 on the afternoon of March 28th, at the roll-out event for the hydrogen-powered car developed by #TécnicoFuelCell (#TFC) students. And… 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗿 𝗱𝗶𝗱 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸! 🎉 🌿The prototype was presented at an event that filled Instituto Superior Técnico´ s Great Hall. With 130kg, a shape inspired by a drop of water and only one drive wheel (for efficiency reasons), the prototype features #PEM (Proton Exchange Membrane) #fuel #cell #technology. The use of #hydrogen as a #fuel guarantees the production of #clean, #sustainable #energy to power the vehicle’s electric motor. This way, instead of polluting fumes, pure water comes out as waste. In a speech in which he assured that “the car will work”, the president, Rogério Colaço also recalled that “Instituto Superior Técnico was created to help the country in its economic development, creating technology and knowledge and putting them at the service of the people”. “113 years later, student groups like the TFC - Técnico Fuel Cell are proof that #Técnico continues to fulfil this mission,” he concluded. Surrounded by an expectant crowd in the atrium of the main building and with the #TFC pilot already in the driver’s seat, the orange-coloured prototype was ready. With a growing eagerness that would be replaced by cheers and victorious honking seconds later, as the vehicle made its way around the entrance to the building, the phrase “the car is going to work” resounded in everyone’s mind… and then 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗿 𝗱𝗶𝗱 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸! 🌍 Watch out, world – the future is here, and it's eco-friendly! #researchinportugal #studyinportugal #madeinportugal #buyfromportugal #investinportugal #AICEP

Better biobased building blocks for a more sustainable future 🧪🌱 Together with 10 other partners we are working together to make green building blocks with local tree and plant residues. From grass to glue, from sugar beet pulp to paint or from wood chips to insulation foam are examples of what the B4 project – 𝗕𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗕𝗶𝗼𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗕𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗸𝘀 - envisions. These building blocks not only make products for the construction industry more sustainable, but also provide scratch resistance, flame retardancy or UV resistance. What's great? The project combines the entrepreneurship, knowledge and expertise of small, medium-sized and large companies with the technologies and knowledge of TNO, VITO and Avans University of Applied Sciences 🤝 A detailed description of the project can be found on our website: https://bit.ly/3ysEUnT We are very happy to be part of such a great project and to be able to make an impact for the future 💚 Projectpartners: TNO & VITO under the flag of Biorizon Shared Research Center, Avans Hogeschool under the flag of MNEXT Centre of Expertise, Westlake, Relement, Worlée-Chemie GmbH, Baril Coatings Nederland, Green Chemistry Campus, Impershield Europe B.V. - Biobased Impregneren en coaten, Bodewes Material Solutions & Progression-Industry BV. For the Green Innovator LinkedIn Challenge Scholarship, I have come up with an innovative idea involving an arts and crafts event that colleges can host for their students as a destress activity! The event being hosted would be called "Handmake Recycled Note Paper," where students are encouraged to bring their own recycled material like newspaper or cardboard to make new reusable note paper for their studies. Ideally, at workspaces, there would be paper instructions to use as a guide. Finally, to make the activity even more interesting, students can experiment by adding different natural things like flower petals or leaves to add texture and different designs to their new note paper. Just a cute idea to think about, University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and ScholarshipOwl! 😋

Circular E-Cars: New Graduate School has started!!! Compared to conventional cars, electric cars (e-cars) require significantly more valuable non-ferrous metals and new types of composites and plastics. Therefore, the recycling of end-of-life electric vehicles has enormous potential, which has so far only been insufficiently utilized. Current manual dismantling processes are time-consuming and cost-intensive. The new graduate school Circular E-Cars, coordinated by our Chair of Management Accounting at RWTH Aachen, addresses precisely this issue. Ten chairs, supported by the Centre for Circular Economy and other institutions at RWTH Aachen University, together with five chairs at the University of Siegen, two working groups at Münster University of Applied Sciences, scientists from the Wuppertal Institut für Klima, Umwelt, Energie gGmbH , the sustainability initiative of the universities in North Rhine-Westphalia, Humboldtn, and industrial partners, are pursuing the goal of developing the Rhenish Mining Area into a leading European location for research, development and innovation for the establishment of metal-focused circular cycles for e-cars. The Federal Ministry of Education and Research is funding the research training group with 8.4 million € over the next four years. #CircularEconomy #RWTH #Sustainability #RhenishMiningArea #Recycling #Controlling
