(Head Office: California, USA; CEO: Valery Miftakhov; hereinafter “ZeroAvia”), which develops and manufactures hydrogen-electric engines. ZeroAvia appointed ITOCHU as a sales representative in Asia, and an MOU was also signed with ZeroAvia regarding collaborations in multiple fields, including maintenance, airport infrastructure and hydrogen infrastructure in the region. It is expected that there will be approximately 44,000 commercial aircraft in 2042 (1.6 times the number in 2023).* With the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) announcing their goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, the decarbonization of the aviation industry is an international challenge and, to solve the issue, new technologies in addition to SAF, such as hydrogen aircraft, are necessary.

ZeroAvia Spearheads CAA’s Hydrogen Challenge. By FRANKIE WALLACE The UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has taken a decisive step toward greener skies by partnering with three leading companies, including ZeroAvia, as part of its Hydrogen Challenge Sandbox initiative. This groundbreaking program, fueled by government support, aligns with the ambitions of the UK Government’s Jet Zero Strategy to explore sustainable aviation alternatives, particularly focusing on the potential of hydrogen. Launch of The Hydrogen Challenge Launched in November 2023, the Hydrogen Challenge represents a beacon of hope for an industry under intense scrutiny for its environmental footprint. This year, the challenge escalates to real-world testing and tackling safety concerns integral to the widespread deployment of hydrogen technologies. ZeroAvia: A Front-runner in Hydrogen Propulsion Innovation ZeroAvia, positioned at the forefront of hydrogen propulsion innovation, has been tasked with a mission crucial to future air travel. With its eyes set on a commercial solution for aircraft seating 40 to 80 passengers, the company’s development of hydrogen-electric (fuel cell) engines stands as a testament to ambition connecting with actionable technology. ZeroAvia has received a conditional order from Maritime Energy Heli Air Services (MEHAIR), for a maximum of 20 ZA600 hydrogen-electric engines. These engines have been under development with Zero Avia for a long time and their current plan involves their aim to have the engine certified by the end of 2025. Along with working to develop the engine itself, the company has also been working with the UK’s CAA, plus other regulators, to make sure that the engine is certified across the globe. The order that MEHAIR made, brings the total number of engine pre-orders which ZeroAvia has received up to 2,000. Jekta and ZeroAvia partner for Hydrogen Seaplane. Here's more 👇 Swiss aircraft developer JEKTA has partnered with ZeroAvia to create a hydrogen-powered seaplane. The collaboration aims to integrate ZeroAvia's fuel cell engine into JEKTA's PHA-ZE 100 amphibious flying boat design. By incorporating hydrogen power, JEKTA expects to achieve a range of up to 500-600 km while increasing payload capacity compared to battery-electric systems. This makes hydrogen an attractive option for operators serving longer regional routes. JEKTA CEO George Alafinov emphasized the importance of offering clients a choice between electric and hydrogen power. The partnership will develop and certify an integrated power generation system, including inverters, a hydrogen tank, and a fuel system. While battery-electric power suits shorter ranges and certain locations, hydrogen provides a compelling alternative for extended range and payload. ZeroAvia CEO Val Miftakhov expressed interest in working with JEKTA to shape the future of amphibious aviation.
