Anamnesis, a medical podcast, delves into the nuanced, gray areas of medicine rather than its straightforward aspects. Each episode presents three stories from healthcare professionals and patients, focusing on themes like medical gaslighting. Despite professional knowledge, healthcare workers can still experience gaslighting, highlighting the power dynamics inherent in medicine. Imbalances in knowledge, power, physical status, and time contribute to this phenomenon, causing even professionals to doubt themselves. The podcast aims to foster empathy and understanding around medical gaslighting, starting with the story of neurologist Dr. ILENE SUE RUHOY from Mount Sinai Health System South Nassau in New York. By sharing experiences from both healthcare workers and patients, Anamnesis sheds light on the challenges faced within the healthcare system and the importance of recognizing and addressing medical gaslighting. Our team ensures transparent communication, respects patient experiences, and validates concerns. We prioritize empathy, actively listen, and empower patients to advocate for themselves. By fostering trust and collaboration, we mitigate the risk of gaslighting. Hard at work on the inaugural edition of "The Surgeon's Record" presented by Commons Clinic set for release next week. Given the title and goal of the newsletter, the first edition focuses on what it means to be a surgeon and how that definition is changing. In the healthcare environment of tomorrow, being a head down widget-maker simply isn't going to be enough. The healthcare innovation ecosystem has been enamored of primary care (for valid reasons) and somewhat cautious about tackling value-based specialty care. But specialty care, especially procedurally based specialty care, is an enormous opportunity. Newsweek recently declared surgeons "the most trusted healthcare operators" (their pun, not mine!). While primary care undoubtedly plays a critical and underappreciated role in evolving care models, the role of surgeons is rapidly changing and should not be underestimated. What's needed are systems and processes to capture that potential. Really excited for the launch of "The Record" which will also include some short takes/links on timely topics, thought-provoking healthcare visuals (just for you, Nick Aubin), and additional features as we grow. In this intriguing article, the authors explore the disillusionment experienced by surgeons regarding electronic health records (EHRs) and their perceived lack of value. Several areas are explored, contributing both to "the why" and "how" these challenges can be addressed. (e.g. improving clinical outcomes) Cutting to the chase, the authors propose increased surgeon involvement in governance at both local and national levels. This approach aims to facilitate change adoption and unlock the promised benefits associated with EHR utilization with respect to surgical cases and workflows. https://lnkd.in/g7mtFD7n

The world is undergoing a profound cultural shift toward longevity medicine—healthcare that is personalized, proactive, and precision-guided. This approach addresses one of the greatest needs in medicine today: helping people not only live longer but live better. That’s why I’m thrilled to announce my partnership with Canvas Medical to build Anova, an EMR that enables clinicians to deliver longevity medicine with ease, accuracy, and scalability. Together, we’ve created Anova, an EMR platform that is not only robust (fully certified and equipped with foundational EMR capabilities) but also designed specifically to bring the latest longevity protocols and complex lab interpretations into clinical workflows.` Longevity medicine addresses nearly every person on the planet. Yet we face a significant challenge: the number of clinicians trained and equipped to deliver this type of care is far too small. While demand grows, barriers like fragmented education, a rapidly evolving evidence base, and the lack of tools to deliver this care at scale prevent many from entering the field. With Anova, we'll provide immediate insights on what to do for clinical scenarios such as low testosterone, elevated CRP, or high LP(a), seamlessly integrated into your workflow. You'll also get detailed, accurate, and personalized interpretations of complex lab data to guide precision care. Our mission is simple: to make it as easy as possible for clinicians to deliver longevity medicine at the highest standard. This insightful conversation touches on two issues that are close to my heart. The first is that as physicians we have a powerful voice when it comes to the future of primary care. The second is that we must address the financial realities associated with becoming a doctor in this day and age. Creating a financial incentive that makes primary care particularly attractive for those who are just beginning their medical careers is a step in the right direction. What do you think? #KevinMD https://bit.ly/3zdznlt
