📚 "Education should be humanity's central focus," argues Turing Award-winner Leslie Valiant in his book, The Importance of Being Educable. He emphasizes that our unique ability to learn from experiences and adopt new beliefs defines us as humans. Valiant advocates for a scientific foundation in education, similar to that in medicine, to enhance our learning capabilities. He warns of the ease with which misinformation can influence us, urging for improved evaluative skills. Discover more about Valiant's insights on education and human potential. 🔍 Teaching computational thinking skills doesn't always require a screen. Recently, I had the privilege of leading a session on Computational Thinking and Arts at Nande, where we explored this concept in a unique way. Before the session, I posed a question: Can we learn computational thinking without devices? Many students believed it wasn't possible. However, through a simple activity, we dove into the essence of computational thinking. I tasked them with drawing a rangoli of 15 dots, then challenged them to divide it into four equal parts, each with the same pattern. What followed was inspiring. As each group presented their solutions, they showcased the diverse skills they had employed to tackle the task. From problem-solving to pattern recognition, they demonstrated the core principles of computational thinking without touching a device. In today's tech-driven world, it's crucial to nurture problem solvers, not just programmed individuals. By teaching how to think like a computer, we empower the next generation to navigate challenges creatively and effectively. #ComputationalThinking #ProblemSolvers #Education #CreativeThinking #STEMEducation Pi Jam Foundation

https://lnkd.in/euuJYRkY "Education is a vast network of teachers spanning dozens of different fields, ranging from early years numeracy to high-school civics to graduate chemistry. One thing that unites these varied teachers is a dedication to performing the contextualised, naturalistic value-laden activities of teaching. What exercises best engender specific memory patterns? What materials best guide student attention? What routines best support student motivation?"
