Did you know May is EU diversity month? 🇪🇺 I'm especially excited to speak at tomorrow's conference "Stay in Tech! – Policies and Practices for Attracting and Retaining Female Tech Talent" at my neighboring Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute HHI. Catch me on the panel "Elevating Diversity: Bridging the Gender Gap in Tech Hiring" alongside – Begonia Vazquez Merayo, Founder & Managing Director WhyConsult _ Power of Diversity and net4tec | 4 WoMen Careers in Technology , – Anjuli Mauer, Founder & CEO, People Pace, – and Christian Berg, CEO, AllBright Stiftung, moderated by Mary Cleary Dip IoD, Member of the Board of Directors, CEPIS. 🔎 Let's see if we can zoom in on 1. how we can create a larger pool of eligible female talent in tech, 2. as well as design and implement effective and fair hiring processes, 3. and how companies can stand out in the fierce competition between employers for the most promising (female) talent? It's so nice I'll do it twice, so stay around for my closing remarks 😉 Thanks to Alexander Nouak and his team from Fraunhofer-Verbund IUK-Technologie for the invitation to speak on the behalf of Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft! #SheTransformsIT Gesellschaft für Informatik e.V. #StayInTech #WomenInTech #WomenInSTEM #Diversity

Why #womenintechweek matters: ➡️While women make up 47% of all employed adults in the US, as of 2022, they hold only 28% of computing and mathematical roles. (Women in Tech Network). ➡️The percentage of women in tech leadership roles has fallen to 28% in 2023 (Women in Tech Network). ➡️In 2019, Accenture/Girls Who Code reported that by age 35, 50% of females are leaving tech due to non-inclusive cultures. ➡️Thirty-two (32%) percent of women in technical and engineering roles are often the only women in the room at work (Zippia). ➡️Girls have fewer role models to inspire their interest in these fields, seeing limited examples of female scientists and engineers in books, media, and popular culture. There are even fewer Black women role models in math and science (American Association for University Women). ➡️Black and Hispanic women account for 3% and 2% of the computing workforce. Black, Latina and Native American women (BLNA) representation in the tech workforce has declined by 10% from 2018 – 2022. (Reboot Representation) 🔗Read more about these important points and events throughout the state of Indiana this week https://lnkd.in/eWxusjKD Thank you Indiana Women IN Tech Week and Fort Wayne Tech for the inspiring Kickoff Brunch this morning and organizing this week's upcoming events 👏🏼 #indianawomenintechweek #indianawomenintech

𝘐𝘧 𝘐 𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘢 𝘮𝘢𝘯, 𝘐 𝘸𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘢𝘭𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘺 𝘱𝘶𝘵 𝘮𝘺𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘧 𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦. I second what Jo Rocca said today at the STEM event run by Women in Technology. There’s so much I haven’t said or done because I’ve often felt like I didn’t know enough, or I was intimidated by the room. As a South American immigrant, the stigmas seem endless, and on top of that, there’s the long journey to truly feeling a sense of belonging. This event gave me the extra boost of inspiration I’m always looking for through other people's stories because, at the end of the day, you can’t dream what you can’t see. Hearing the inspiring stories of women like Kellie King, Angela Lawry-Jones MBA, RN, CHIA, Jo Rocca, and Iyari Cevallos, combined with the chance to meet new people, fuels my own path in tech. ✨ Some key tips shared by the panelists: - Do what you need to do and SHOW it to people: advocate for yourself and put yourself out there. - Be curious: raise your hand for opportunities, you never know where they might lead. - Embrace and advocate for diversity: a more diverse group fosters greater openness and curiosity. - Be yourself: though it may sound cliché, this simple advice leads us to where we truly belong. Thank you, Women in Technology, for another fantastic event and the opportunity to hear and meet these amazing women! 🙌 #WomenInTechnology #WomenInSTEM

A thought provoking day at Women in STEM Summit 2024 at Croke Park and great to meet other Abbott colleagues from other Abbott Ireland sites from Sligo, Galway and Longford. Brid Burns James Brady Amy Jayne Shrahan The takeaways for me: From Gillian Harford: the importance of agile workplaces to attract and retain talent, the conversation being about life and not work/life balance. From Lorna Martyn: be true to yourself and tell people what works and what doesn’t work for you. Find what gives you joy, celebrate the wins especially team wins. Learn to read the room. From Chris Collins: shift the conversation to what talent gap do I have in my team? …it’s about hiring the right person for the job. Review job specs so they truly reflect the key skill sets of the job. From Tina Raleigh changing swim lanes offers new opportunities and fresh perspectives. Take the leap. Most important: BELIEVE IN YOURSELF! From Emma Britton it’s not about removing the men from the table and replacing with women, it’s about having a table that’s representative of all. From Eva Gallagher: Lean in and trust your team and when you do that you are never alone. From Sonya Lennon: Fear is never a good reason not to do anything. Privileged to be part of a room today that is influencing the next generation that is coming after me. Looking forward to taking up the courage coffee call to action by Sonya Lennon A day well spent that was full of connection, positive social impact and purpose that was totally worth the 4am start! #womeninstem24 #abbottproud #diversityandinclusion
