I've just signed up as a supporter of this amazing project, helping create a healthier environment locally. And going some small way to helping offset my carbon footprint in the process. And ok, so there's a family connection to this... it's just one initiative from my son Elliot Riley! - But more importantly, the key aims of the project are to: 1. Plant trees 2. Create multi-generational sources of organic food in public spaces 3. Get kids and the community connected to nature 4. Take waste away from landfill - and use it to build an ecosystem 5. Develop other community food-growing and waste-to-compost projects - If that sounds of interest, please do consider donating, or getting involved... Hands in soil are always welcome, I believe! - To find out more, click the link below:

A perfect way to celebrate a successful CXFS event is by planting 300 trees! At CXFS, we believe in the power of unity and collective action to protect our planet. That's why we partnered with One Tree Planted, a nonprofit dedicated to global reforestation, to plant trees. They raise awareness about the importance of trees, offer a sustainability solution everyone can participate in (and feel good about), and motivate younger generations to do something positive for the environment. By registering for CXFS 2024, we automatically donated $1 to One Tree Planted on your behalf. Together, we can create a greener, healthier planet for ourselves and future generations. Here's to planting more trees for years to come! #CXFS #OneTreePlanted #biodiversity #reforestation #sustainability

BrightCarbon was certified for our 1% for the Planet giving for 2023 last month. That means we donated 1% of our annual revenue (not profit) for last year to environmental causes. We'll do it again in future years too. Our two largest donations were to Cool Earth and Earthjustice - although we also gave to five national and local charities. Our BrightCarbon environment committee suggested organisations we could donate to, and then all employees were given a chance to vote on those choices - with our giving proportionate to the votes received in different categories. I'm not certain, but I hope that involving the entire team makes this feel like everyone's donation - we all worked to make the money, and we all had a say in where it was spent. 1% of our revenue isn't going to be enough to save the planet, obviously. But if more companies did this, more good would be done. At a time when people are looking for meaning in what they do, this makes every project we deliver count for something bigger too. No greenwashing, no navel-gazing, just one small attempt to do some good. P.S. A photo of the northern lights, which I completely missed last week when they were actually visible from my street.

ATTENTION: Googlers & non-Googlers, your dollars are needed to help composting in NYC. The city took a major step backwards on climate action – composting funding got gutted. This means more trash in landfills AND missed opportunity to turn our food scraps into something useful. I'm NOT okay with that, and I hope you aren't either. Here's what we CAN do: 1) DONATE NOW: BigReuse is keeping NYC composting alive. Your dollars DIRECTLY support keeping food out of landfills. https://lnkd.in/ezjjvtzc 2) GOOGLERS: Let's get that match and double the impact! https://lnkd.in/ezWcTnBQ 3) SHARE THIS POST: Spread the word – NYC needs to know composting matters! Why Composting? It's one of the SIMPLEST ways to fight climate change AND keep our city cleaner. Let's show NYC we demand sustainable solutions! #composting #NYC #climateaction #Google #BigReuse #Googlers

As Earth Day approaches, it's time to reflect on our planet's beauty and our responsibility to protect it. We are doing our small part to positively impact the environment by pledging funds to Trees That Count a collective and inclusive mission to plant native trees across New Zealand. We’ve also setup a tree registry page on their website, with the aim of donating 2,000 trees (twice the number from 2023), in the lead up to IANZ’s annual conference this year, in August. So, if you’d like to join us in supporting this important cause, head on over to the page before the 21st of August, and give generously – all it costs is $10 to gift a tree and make a difference! Tree registry page: https://lnkd.in/g8q-MeF2 Whether you choose to donate funds, volunteer your time to environmental projects, or spread awareness about the invaluable work of charities such as Trees That Count, your support can make a tangible difference in the fight against environmental degradation. Let's come together this Earth Day and commit to the ongoing movement towards a greener, healthier, and more sustainable planet. #EarthDay #EnvironmentalProtection #Sustainability

Happy Earth Day! I have far too many things to say here. But in summary I think „let’s just NOT f.ck it up“ might be an ok summary of my thinking. Time is running fast. And maybe out. Lean in! Act now! What to act on? What to do? Where to start? It’s simple: wherever you want. As long as you start. In small steps, like using a reusable coffee cup. Or by donating money to an environmental association. By reading a book. You simply can’t go wrong. But you need to start. NOW. #earthday #climateaction #focusonthesolution

Read on for a compelling message from the small but mighty non-profit ReClaim It. They work tirelessly to divert waste from our landfills and literally turn trash into treasure. Consider donating to their great work and have your donation matched dollar for dollar: https://lnkd.in/gtqgYSXP 🙌 "Last week someone broke into our store in the dead of night with a crowbar—destroying the front door. They stole the safe, which was bolted to the floor, but left everything else. Even though we say everything that comes back from the dump is a treasure, honestly, we don’t have much of value. We’re a scrappy nonprofit that works with limited resources & makes do with what comes to us. Our technology is outdated. The space is cramped. The plumbing is leaking. The windows are thin. The heating & air conditioning escape out the windows & doors faster than you can blink. Some customers complain about how expensive things may be getting & others say we undervalue the work we put into things. And still our dedicated staff & volunteers show up each week to wipe the pigeon poop off that discarded side table we saved from the dump & put a new coat of paint on. It’s not pretty or easy work, but we do it in the hope that each day more people will see value in the things that are being thrown away. We live in such a beautiful natural world that is being utterly inundated with trash. We need to slow down. Take a look at the beauty in the things we already own. Learn new skills to fix them as they age. Think creatively about how to reuse them if they’re beyond repair. Help one another by sharing our knowledge & resources. Coincidentally, we are doing a soft fundraising campaign for the month of August, so this feels like a weird coincidence. Here we are asking for help when instead we had things taken away. Are we upset? Sure. But it’s only fired up our determination even more to see this nonprofit thrive. I still can’t quite believe it, but a very generous donor has agreed to match up to $10,000 of any donations this month. Take a moment to let that sink in. We are floored by their offer, but can’t do it without you. Any support you can offer— even $5—would help us be more secure as an organization. This break-in may be a setback, but it doesn’t diminish our determination to keep growing as an organization. We have so much to look forward to this year!"

That sounds fantastic, Martin! Love the focus on community and nature. It's amazing to see family connections driving positive change. How did Elliot come up with this idea? Alex Belov
