☎️ Do phone conversations matter to a generation of digital natives? ✔️ Yes. QS data shows that phone calls remain a key channel for meaningful conversations with your prospective students. 💡In fact, when a phone call was the first point-of-contact with a university, it was the channel which was most likely to convert to enrolment – with phone enquiries showing a 10% conversion rate compared to email (8%) and live chat (8%). Of course, prospective students utilise a plethora of channels and information sources to inform their decision-making. But we found that those who connected via phone in the first instance were the most likely to convert, so it’s possible that prospective students are reserving phone calls for the conversations and questions that matter to them most. We are in the process of putting together our 2023/24 impact report and, as part of this, we are reviewing the Google form responses that we sent to students following their one to one guidance appointment. Out of 1,164 appointments, just 43 have completed it but that's ok! Look at the lovely things they had to say when asked about the best part of their appointment. Love them or hate them, phone calls absolutely still need to be a part of your student recruitment communications strategy as we enter 2025. Just like you and me, most students don’t answer random calls from phone numbers they don’t recognize. If you want more students to answer their phone it’s critical that you schedule the call ahead of time AND explain the reason/purpose for your call. Scheduling can be done with a short email or text message. Phone calls should primarily be used for important conversations, or to deliver some unexpected, positive news. For example, setting up a call with newly admitted students and their parent(s)/guardians(s) to talk about the financial aid process is a smart strategy. Another one that we continue to recommend is using call campaigns to help with numbers and registration for your admitted student events. #highered #higheredmarketing #higheredleadership #emchat
