🚨 NEW BLOG POST. I’m not a father and my relationship with my dad was fraught. He died when we were both too young, and I’ve been working on me ever since. In this post I write about one of my favorite sacred places, the Wind Point Lighthouse, the pull of Lake Michigan, family, friends and Father’s Day. Check it out: https://lnkd.in/ehFE2yMm

This Sunday, instead of our regular Table Talk, we’re going for a Walk. (Table not required.) We’re calling this the Fall Brilliance Walk. Bonus points if you collect twigs, moss, and other materials for an art project we’ll be doing next week. Go for a walk as the leaves change with these questions in your back pocket: 🍁 How does an element in nature (big tree, bright colors) remind you of your own or our family’s brilliance? (For example: Long-standing and strong. Beautiful and ever-changing.) 🍁The leaves changing every fall shows how we can let go of things that we don’t need anymore. What do you want to let go of? 🍁 The changing leaves also show us how these transitions can be beautiful. How can we make this letting go experience beautiful for you? It’s a naturally brilliant way to move forward and experience the beauty of the fall. One of our community members runs a group to connect Black children to outdoor experience. He wants the wilderness to be more approachable and accessible. Walking with your kids in nature and pointing out the beauty is an ideal start. See you back around the table next Sunday!

Twice in my #life I've gone down the "rabbit hole." I still really have not climbed out. ▶ Obsession #1: The Donner Party. Who were they? (Just ask Jack Nicholson's character in Steven King's "The Shining.") They were a group of covered wagon settlers who traveled from Springfield, IL to what today is Sacramento, CA, in 1846, only to get to present day Truckee, CA on the eastern flank of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and become snowbound. As in they had to build cabins and winter there for 6 months, with almost all of the food running out in the first few weeks. Yes, they ended up resorting to cannibalism to survive. But the stories of #personal and #communal #perseverance in this story has always captured my awe and attention. Of rescuers trekking 80 miles through 15-20 feet deep of snow only to find the #survivors so starved, that many could not even return with the rescuers (and were eventually cannibalized). I have personally covered about 75% of the Donner's cross country #journey on foot or car in the last 30 years. Best spots are in Utah and Northern California, but there are fascinating remnants of the trail in Kansas, Nebraska, Wyoming and Nevada, too. ➡ Do I have a single person in my network who shares my interest in the Donner Party? ➡ Would anyone like a book recommendation to learn more? ➡ Are any of my Mormon friends aware of the incredible significance the Donner's had on modern day Mormon life? P.S., I already used up too much LinkedIn real estate describing my first rabbit hole. Rabbit hole #2 to follow in a separate post.

Core Value: Value Creation. A.K.A. “Sulit”
Very excited to announce that we have rolled out “QRonicle” at Forest Lake Memorial Parks in Biñan, Laguna. As the leading memorial park developer in the country, we are also proud to have a Total Memorial Care solution in this location, and soon, nationwide. QRonicle is the first or one of the first in the country, a QR Code, that is included in your loved one’s grave marker, that allows (subject to privacy constraints elected by the family) anyone to scan the QR Code that will link to a social media page and will share testimonials, eulogies, memorable videos that celebrates and immortalizes the memories of our loved ones down the generations. We continue to make Forest Lake A Better Place.
