We are very proud to work with The Crown Estate Marine Team as one of its Geospatial Partners, to develop the next innovative evolution of TCEs seabed modelling capability, the Resource Identification & Optimisation (RIO) digital solution. The Crown Estate (TCE) has been named in the Digital Leaders #DL100 for 2024, as a finalist in the category of "Geospatial Innovation of the Year" 🌍 for Digitally Powered Sustainable Management and Protection of the Foreshore and Seabed Around England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. As the manager of the seabed and much of the coastline around England, Wales, and Northern Ireland, TCE plays a key role in enabling green energy, driving economic growth and jobs, and creating and protecting thriving biodiversity and marine environments. This includes development of the UK’s world-leading offshore wind industry, supporting the target to supply all the UK’s electricity from renewable sources by 2035. With many competing demands for seabed space, including ports, shipping, cables, pipelines, CO2 storage, and renewable energy sources, TCE drives a co-ordinated approach to its management with its Whole of Seabed Programme, which sees a careful balance between protecting the marine environment and the rich biodiversity of the seas, whilst also helping facilitate the growth of sustainable industry sectors and the economies of local communities. Decarbonisation is an increasingly important topic as we look at the future of the logistics industry. This week Logistics UK are hosting a Decarbonisation Solutions Forum in London. It is a new event to give those operating in the sector the opportunity to gain advice, insights and top tips. I am sure over the coming months and years attention of the sector will focus increasingly on measures that need to be taken as we work towards Net Zero by 2050. ⚡ "Demand Response is not a futuristic business model. It exists already, and it works." Last month, our Strategy and Innovation Director, Olivia S., participated in a panel discussion centered around flexibility and customer engagement during European Sustainable Energy Week 2024. Olivia discussed: 📈 The business model for #DemandResponse and flexibility: Industries participating in flexibility services can earn 5-30% of extra revenues compared to their energy bills. 🚧 Main barriers to participation — What is "Flex Fear" and what can we do about it? 🚀 Best practices and key enablers of Demand-side Flexibility. "What I find very powerful with Demand Response is that it uses the already existing infrastructure. It is way more cost-efficient than building new batteries or power plants - even though we need both. Demand Response can also be an enabler of electrification. When you look at the cost of producing heat with a gas boiler, it's around 80 Euros per MW/h. With an e-boiler, it's around 120 Euros per MW/h, but when you consider the revenues coming from flexibility, the effective cost for the e-boiler goes down to 80 Euros per MW/h." - Olivia S.
