This winter, let's give some extra love and support to our human service nonprofits in our communities. They have chosen difficult industries that extend care to all those who need it - especially those at the margins. ✔️ Handwrite a card (and mail it). 💌 📬 ✔️ Drop off gift baskets. 🎁 ✔️ Deliver gift cards. 🍽️ ✔️ Send emails of gratitude. 💻 ✔️ Give financially. 💵 ✔️ Donate your time and talent as volunteers. 🗓️ Commit to supporting at least one organization this winter. Be Kind Be Grateful #34 – Create an alumni group where colleagues share stories of kindness and its impact, inspiring others to pay it froward and continue the cycle of good will. #33 – With Christmas coming, if you have toys that your children do not play with anymore, consider giving them to charities or goodwill stores so less fortunate children can have a toy under the tree this year. #32 – If you have unredeemed loyalty points that will not be used, if available, consider donating them to charity rather than having them expire. #31 – Hosting a holiday party, rather than say to your quests, please bring nothing. Help your local food bank and ask them to bring a non-perishable food item. Set out a box at your front door and see what your family and friends give back to the community. I think you will be surprised. #30 – Put together a ‘Health and Happiness Box’ for a teacher, pastor, or a person in need. This box might have some home baked cookies, healthy snacks, candle, bath salts and a note of thanks. Please share and add other comments or suggestions to the list.

Thursday Thoughts on leadership and service...musings on work & life: December 12, 2024 -- MAKE EVERY MONTH DECEMBER December is an interesting time for fundraisers. We need to make sure people have the opportunity to make their donations before the end of the year. We send holiday cards and poinsettias. We invite a donor to lunch, or we have a holiday party. All valid. A question: at home, is the gift giving of the holidays all stuffed into your stocking, or only for eight nights? Probably not. The family -- our first relationship -- is a year-round bond of support, gifts and, sometimes, just being present without a present. I believe that the work we do in December we should be doing all year long. This is not just about end of year transactions. It's about what happens when relationships are nurtured ALL YEAR LONG, not just in December. Treat every month like it's December! Focusing just on the transaction gets you one gift.
