A little throwback from a session Stover School, as part of our role with High Five Sports Camps, with one member of the team using the “Rainbow Tracking” concept. This methodology has been developed for schools and colleges to equip their valued staff and students with the ability to accurately answer the question… ‘HOW ARE YOU?’ This simple question is so often poorly answered with a “fine”, meaning nothing to either the person asking or answering! We help young people understand more about how being level around the middle of the rainbow is the comfortable, “Awesome” space, but that certain things can push us up into a zone we call, “Spiking”, and others can push us down into “Dipping”, where we end up feeling low. This emotional literacy is crucial for young people in their development, knowing that people are rarely simply good or bad, but also to recognise patterns in their lives by reviewing things like their timetable, and planning strategies to cope with times (often specific lessons) where they know they are likely to either Spike or Dip in mood. I’d love to work with more schools to support with this strategy… If you are a teacher, school leader (particularly Pastoral Leads), parent, or working in support roles at schools and you can recognise the value of this kind of input, please find out more here. 🌈🐘 https://lnkd.in/eyWBMnT3 #MentalHealth #SummerCamps Worth mention to Ben Knight at High Five Sports and Activities Camps!

Did you know youth sports programs go beyond developing athletes? They play a crucial role in promoting academic success and supporting community well-being! Here's how: 🏅 Academic Engagement: Sports teach life skills like discipline, time management, and perseverance, all of which boost academic performance. Many programs also integrate mentorship and tutoring to emphasize education alongside athletics. 🤝 Building Support Networks: Youth sports create a community, connecting families, schools, and organizations to strengthen support systems for kids. 🍽️ Fighting Hunger: Many programs partner with organizations to provide meals and combat food insecurity, ensuring kids have the nutrition they need to succeed in school and on the field. 🌱 Holistic Development: By addressing basic needs, kids are better equipped to focus on education and personal growth, leading to improved cognitive function and academic success. Supporting youth sports means supporting education, building stronger communities, and ensuring kids have the resources to thrive. Let’s work together to make a difference! #PayFLcoaches #CommunityImpact #SupportCoaches #YouthDevelopment #FightHunger #AcademicSuccess #StrongerCommunities

Sports day season at Scotland’s primary schools is well underway. Having 10 stations where half of all P1-P7 take part at the same time, forming queues and generally doing nothing. If you are like me you might be disappointed. My son goes to a fantastic school but PE is a bit of an after thought. This is not a dig at his teachers as delivering sports classes is not what teachers are paid to do. There is no specialist PE teacher in any state primary school that I know of. Each sport should be given enough time to be worked on. That means 5/6 week sessions (twice a week) with a coach planning a programme that involves: Skills relevant to that sport ABC work ( agility, balance, coordination) Playing the game itself Surely this should be a priority in our kids education? Yes it will cost money but it is absolutely essential that children are given a proper thoughtful experience during physical education so that more kids can thrive and stay happier and healthier as they grow up.

The #InterpersonalSkills of our students are remarkably strong, offering true value for a lifetime. How do we make this happen? It starts with the authentic #Montessori method practiced at Bowman, including "multi-age classrooms," reinforced each year with "grace and courtesy" ground rules. (This extends from #preK through #highschool.) We then create extra opportunities for multi-age sharing, such as the #Buddy Program, pictured below. Here, elementary students are paired with older, adolescent students for their monthly buddy activity: exploring, laughing and enjoying together. Other school programs introduce different dimensions of collaboration (in addition to the Montessori cornerstone of #independentwork, which is foundational for each Bowman student). By the time they graduate, our students are seasoned practitioners of #connecting well with others. They intrinsically understand when to #lead, when to #follow; how to #respect others; how to #askforhelp, and how to #advocate for oneself ... precisely the kind of #socialemotional maturity that employers seek, and families celebrate. #BowmanCommunity #MentorshipMoments #InspiringConnections #BowmanCamaraderie #GrowingTogether #MontessoriEducation #DiscoverCreateBecome

🎓 **Boosting School Attendance with Extrinsic Incentives at Blairgowrie High School** 🎯 At Blairgowrie High School, we’ve been exploring creative strategies to keep pupils engaged and improve attendance. One approach that’s showing promise is our In 2 Win incentive – providing rewards to try and motivate our pupils to come to school consistently and engage in learning. In conjunction with our local businesses we have been able to offer positive reinforcements, such as vouchers for Starbucks, vouchers for the Co-Op, hot chocolate and cake with the Headteacher as well as recognition in assemblies. We also have a Premiership and Championship league table on which every Registration class is featured in attempt to create a sense of togetherness and team approach to attending school! This is helping not only increase attendance but also helping us further develop our sense of community. These incentives tap into pupils' need for acknowledgment and reward their efforts, creating a school environment that values consistency and hard work. **Why extrinsic motivation works:** ✔️ Encourages short-term behavior change, which can lead to long-term habits. ✔️ Fosters a positive school culture where attendance and effort are celebrated. ✔️ Provides an opportunity to engage pupils who might struggle with intrinsic motivation. It’s still early days, but the impact so far has been promising. Attendance rates are slightly up from last year at this time. This small shift is helping create a larger impact—keeping our young people in school and making learning a priority. As term 1 draws to a close this week, we are looking forward to continuing this journey next term. Keen to hear what others are doing to help improve attendance in your own schools! #AttendanceMatters #ExtrinsicMotivation #BlairgowrieHigh #PositiveReinforcement #InclusiveEducation #OurBlairgowrie #OurCommunity #TogetherweSucceed
