Reminder: Concept Papers for HFTO Funding Opportunity Due November 20 The U.S. Department of Energy's Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technologies Office (HFTO) announced the Advanced Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technologies to Drive National Goals notice of funding opportunity (NOFO) on October 23, 2024. This opportunity will award up to $46 million to improve the performance of technologies for hydrogen production, hydrogen infrastructure, and fuel cells, and will demonstrate hydrogen and fuel cells in a new, high-impact transportation application. Concept papers are due next week on Wednesday, November 20, by 5 p.m. ET. This NOFO will fund projects under the following topic areas: Topic 1: Photoelectrochemical (PEC) Water Splitting Device Scale Up Topic 2: High-Performance Materials for Hydrogen Service, Including Cryogenic and/or High-Pressure Conditions Topic 3: Sustainable High-Temperature Proton Exchange Membranes and Ionomers for Heavy-Duty Transportation Applications Topic 4: Domestic Hydrogen Fuel Cell Electric Motorcoach Bus Development and Demonstration

🌱 Exciting news from the U.S. Department of Energy! This week, the DOE announced selectees for the second release of FY 2024 Phase II Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) awards. A total of $142 million is being provided to 123 small business projects nationwide to fuel research and development (R&D) in clean energy. ⚡ Notably, HFTO selected 15 projects for clean hydrogen and fuel cell applications, with approximately $17.1 million in funding expected. Brandenburgische Technische Universität Cottbus-Senftenberg and TECNALIA has signed a MoU for boosting the collaboration between both entities in the field of hydrogen, with particular focus on Electrolysers.   🔹 From BTU side, Prof. Dr. Lars Röntzsch, Head of Hydrogen Research Center and Head of the Chair of Thermal Energy Technology, and Prof. Dr. Wolfram Berger, Vice President of BTU participated. 🔹 Ekain Fernandez represented TECNALIA in this signature ceremony in Cottbus, Germany.   🤝 BTU and TECNALIA are already collaborating within CLEANHYPRO project, the largest R&D project on #Electrolysers in Europe.   This #Collaboration is another big step forward for the #Hydrogen and #OpenInnovation Strategies of TECNALIA.   #H2X https://lnkd.in/dasgQ-BV

https://lnkd.in/g9qRSEck The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) today announced the phase-two (the Prove! phase) winners of the Hydrogen Shot Incubator Prize, a multi-phase competition launched by the DOE Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technologies Office (HFTO) to identify, develop, and test disruptive technologies that reduce the cost of producing clean hydrogen The four winners announced for this phase (the Prove! phase) will each receive $300,000 in national laboratory vouchers and $100,000 in cash to support their demonstration efforts in preparation for the final stage in 2025—phase three (Pitch Day!), in which competing teams will present their innovations to potential investors and commercial partners. In phase one (Propose!), completed in October 2022, nine winning teams each received $60,000( 50000+10000).

The Clean Hydrogen Innovation Programme (CHIP) has launched its first innovation projects aimed at addressing critical challenges in the #hydrogen supply chain. The first three projects will evaluate the current state of hydrogen #compressors in the #UK market, conduct a cost-benefit analysis of hydrogen #purification, and assess the economic and carbon implications of hydrogen #distribution and buffer #storage.   Established in 2023, CHIP is a multi-year Joint Industry Programme, led by The Carbon Trust in collaboration with Levidian, National Gas Transmission, ScottishPower, and SSE plc, focused on delivering the technological advancements needed to accelerate the development of the midstream #cleanhydrogen sector. CHIP is also supported by the UK Government’s Department for Energy Security & Net Zero.    CHIP’s overarching objective is to support the development of clean hydrogen initiatives characterised by tens of megawatts (MW) of production capacity, with a focus on connecting multiple producers and off-takers across the supply chain. To meet this objective, CHIP targets the hydrogen industry’s midstream infrastructure – the infrastructure between where hydrogen is produced and where it is needed. Wow - €11M for a 1MW electrolyser. Would be interesting to see the techno-economic modelling. Oort Energy (established less than 3 years ago) have raised about €8M in total (of which ~€0.75M is grants for innovation) and: - have built a cohesive team, - have built a test and innovation laboratory as well as a factory capable of manufacturing 12 MW per annum, - have developed, scaled and deployed our next generation, high performance, electrolysers into the field coupled to renewable energy, - have had our systems certified by a notified body and have had them CE marked, - have developed a quality management system to ensure “right first time”, - are developing a high pressure (200bar) electrolyser, to be tested on a refinery in 2025, - and are on track for factory acceptance testing of our first 1MW electrolyser in early August this year which will be used to make green ammonia. One of our core principles is to stay lean (and stay green). (We’re getting there 😉.) In another key focus area, led by CEA-Irig and supported by Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin and EPFL, researchers are working on system integration to design a 500 cm² photocatalytic reactor capable of operating autonomously for 500 hours. Using advanced multi-physical modelling and innovative reactor designs, this work addresses efficiency challenges and establishes a foundation for scalable hydrogen production. ⚡ #KIST's new catalyst reduces the use of #iridium for green hydrogen production! 🔑 #GreenHydrogen #SustainableEnergy #Innovation #Catalysts #Technology. 🌍 A research team at the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) has successfully developed a high-efficiency water electrolysis catalyst that significantly reduces the amount of iridium used to one-twentieth that of commercial catalysts.
