📍 Today, ASCAME’s President Mr. Ahmed El Wakil participated in the ICC World Chambers Federation Committee and at the WCF Europe & Asia Summit, taking place in Istanbul (Türkiye) until tomorrow. Mr. El Wakil had institutional meetings with M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu, President of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Türkiye TOBB, and the presidents of different Asian and European chambers of commerce. 🗨️ ASCAME’s President claimed for cooperation to face current challenges, such as climate change and sustainable transition (green & blue economy), digital transformation, new financing alternatives for SMEs, female entrepreneurship, job creation, and new business opportunities: “ASCAME aims to unite all the players in the Mediterranean private sector to contribute to the development of the economic exchanges within the region and to strongly encourage Euro-Mediterranean Association and the regional integration, through the essential role played by the private sector”. 🗨️ Mr. El Wakil added: “Chambers of commerce have been a key driver in the development of millions of companies and have worked with governments and institutions to find solutions to local, regional, and global challenges by supporting the private sector. It is always great to hear from small business leaders and other advocates about the importance of creating strong networks of interdependent small businesses that help local economies thrive. Many challenging discussions about how we need to focus on getting the basics right in business and in government and that we need to change as our society and economies change… Of particular note, government cannot continue to provide the same services and support but expect different outcomes… we need to be present and effective-not just show up. How important is policy design to attract impactful FDI for sustainable development? In a new Journal of International Business Policy (JIBP) publication titled "Designing effective policy to achieve sustainable development impact of FDI: the case of Sub-Saharan Africa", Dr Nafisat Olabisi and Yingqi Wei study this question in the African context and find that goal coherence is critical to guide the design and implementation of FDI policies.
