Three months into our new strategic plan, and check! Progress being made. Like most strategic plans, the proof's in the pudding. Plans aren't made to sit on a shelf. I'm super proud of the OHS team, who's making sure that doesn't happen. One of the pillars of the new strategic plan is to provide more second changes for all animals - and our community was pretty specific: they're concerned about homeless cats. So, we need to find out more, to figure out how best to help. Ottawa connections - can you help? YOU ONLY NEED ONE MINUTE! To achieve our goal, we've launched a very quick survey about outdoor cats. Well over a thousand responses to date - but our goals are lofty - we want five thousand! Help me out and respond yourself, and share the link! I look forward to sharing the results, both with our community and to the humane sector! https://lnkd.in/dZQp_G_a

Working for a purpose led organisation is super important for me when choosing a new role. We all want to be a part of something meaningful—it’s in our DNA as humans to find our purpose. For 50 years, Bidvest Noonan has been a business that makes a difference in the world—and I’m so proud today to share our purpose statement which honours this 50-year legacy and the exceptional people who have made this business what it is. Our purpose is to proudly create safer and healthier communities today, for tomorrow. Bidvest Noonan is a business rooted in relationships—a business where our people play a vital role in the communities and towns where we live and work. There’s no better way to tell the story of our purpose than for you to meet the people who inspire us and serve as an example of what it means to proudly create safer and healthier communities. As we look to the future, it’s these relationships—with our people and customers—that will enable another 50 years of success and positive impact on the world.
Last week, we launched our purpose: to proudly create safer and healthier communities today, for tomorrow. As part of our ongoing Purpose Hero series, we are sharing stories of colleagues who truly embody this purpose and make a difference in our communities. Today, we share Marilyn’s story. Marilyn, a member of our team at Dinnington Interchange, recounts an incident where, while carrying out her regular duties, she noticed a man in distress and immediately took action. What followed revealed the true power of quick thinking and compassion in the face of an emergency. #Purpose #Facman #PurposeDriven #CommunityImpact #BidvestNoonan

Gov. Wes Moore, sadly, another young person lost and another family and school traumatized by senseless violence. Also, sadly, a post I wrote just a day ago became outdated before sunset. I wrote about the 45th school shooting of the year, and now Maryland is home to the 46th. Most won’t read my post but I am hoping that you will. In it, there’s solution. As veterans, we know that “thoughts and prayers” is not a strategic plan. Neither is hardening of schools a complete plan. That’s a defensive tactic that only addresses the back end of the issue, not the root cause. We need a strategy that will stop these incidents from happening in the first place. That strategy, developed by a team of Marylanders, is outlined in the link and we already have proof that it works to stop violence before it happens. Our work was recognized and supported by Rep Elijah Cummings, Rep Debbie Dingle, and other members of Congress, & was honored by President Biden. It’s time that we spread the L.O.V.E. Is The Answer principles throughout our K-12 schools. Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) https://lnkd.in/eZ9-vRSW
The First Lady and I are heartbroken for the Joppatowne community as we grieve the loss of a life cut short. Maryland prays for the young victim of this senseless act, Warren Curtis Grant – as well as his family, friends, teachers, mentors, and loved ones. My full statement:

The skyrocketing evictions occurring nationwide are having an impact on people and their beloved pets. Overflowing animal shelters have also become a national crisis. The dip in adoptions along with the rise in dog intake from unclaimed strays and owner surrenders is a complete 180 from the surge in adoptions of dogs and cats we saw during the pandemic. According to Shelter Animals Count (SAC), stray dogs taken in by shelters have risen 6% in the January to November 2023 period compared to 2022 and are up a whopping 22% since 2021! #WeRemember. The day our city was changed forever. Theresa is a remarkable example of resiliency, just like our city has been. If you get a chance, read her #SurvivorStory in the link below.
29 years ago, our community was forever changed. #WeRemember those who were killed on April 19, 1995, and pay tribute to the brave and selfless first responders who confronted danger head-on. We are honored to have Theresa Howell, a MACU staff member and Oklahoma City bombing survivor, share her remarkable story. Theresa believes good things come with tragedy — her faith only grew stronger after that fateful day: "I always look for the light in any dark situation because, with the grace of God, there is always light and His blessings." 🙏 Click here to read Theresa's full story: https://bit.ly/3Uojp0b

Just shared on BEATS WORKING Show with Mark Wright: Dive into the profound journey of Chaplain Mike Ryan, who balances the delicate task of delivering life's hardest news with a compassionate heart. 🕊️ From a national football championship to choosing ministry over the NFL, Mike's dedication to supporting families in grief and ensuring the emotional well-being of first responders is truly inspiring. This episode goes beyond work, touching on a life committed to service during others' most vulnerable moments. #BeatsWorking #BeatsWorkingPodcast #WorkP2P #PuttingWorkFirst #RedeemWork #BusinessPodcast #MarkWright #Business #Leadership #Entrepreneur
Imagine having to be the person who tells someone a family member has died. That's part of Chaplain Mike Ryan's job, serving police and fire agencies on King County's Eastside (five agencies covering nearly 10 communities). In fact, in a recent year, Mike responded to more than 100 death scenes to comfort and help grieving families. Mike's story is a fascinating one. He won a national football championship as a lineman at USC and was drafted by the Oakland Raiders, but he chose to go into the ministry instead. He has since dedicated his life to helping families through trauma and grief—and ensuring #firstresponders get the care they need to stay emotionally healthy. "Firefighting runs in Mike's family," says #BEATSWORKING host Mark Wright, "but after meeting him, I learned it takes a very special person to do the job he does, see the things he sees, and deal with the trauma that comes with death. Our conversation transcends the boundaries of work, reflecting on a life spent in the service of others' most critical moments." The crux of the issue is not private education per se but rather the efficacy of adding VAT to the cost of private education. Where’s the rationale or options appraisal for this? It is naive to think that the raison d’etre for private schools is to attract only the well heeled members of society. Instead it’s to offer schooling choices and arguably, if state schools were beacons of excellence, there would not be a need for private schools! Labour, as all previous parties have done should have taken a laissez-faire stance on this rather than introduce VAT which I feel is a myopic policy leading to further demand in the long run on an already crumbling state education system. Labour have both devalued and diluted the educational system by introducing VAT on private schools and this policy, ceteris paribus, will do more damage to the schooling system per se and to the economy.
A Classic Robin Hood moment. Simply rewind back to when Johnson's mob was at the helm. Three million children suffered hunger starvation and hardship during his term. This is so positive from #Labour.
