📢 Attention Rondo Community‼️ 📢 Yesterday, the Star Tribune published an article by Our Street Minneapolis discussing i94 and the #RONDO neighborhood. Just two days prior, Asian Media Access released an article about the new Sears development, which includes a RONDO mall on the first floor. Surprisingly, none of us from the Rondo community have been consulted about these developments. This land is originally Rondo descendant land, as it was initially an army base where Quonset Huts for black families resided before the Sears development. This land belongs to the Rondo Community Covenant! It’s concerning to see organizations trying to leverage and capitalize on our families’ lineage and history without involving US in the conversation. Now more than ever, it’s crucial for us to show up and control the narrative. We can’t afford to sit back and watch others use our history for their own benefits. Moreover, the developers and consultants behind this project, such as Kimley-Horn , Seritage, and S9, along with Cedarleaf Dahl, have a history of gentrifying neighborhoods. They are just money-hungry organizations that are not working for the best interests of communities. If they want our voice, we need to ask ourselves, what are we getting in return? Let’s come together, raise our voices, and demand our rightful place in these discussions. Our history, our community, our future – let’s ensure WE are respected and honored. #RondoCommunity #ControlTheNarrative #ProtectOurHistory

Charlotte, NC is poised for a major transformation with the proposed Queen's Park project. 🏞️ Envisioned as a 220-acre urban green space, it aims to convert a former industrial railyard near uptown into the city’s largest and most dynamic park. Spearheaded by the nonprofit Friends of Queen's Park, the initiative aspires to establish a community hub while addressing the city's need for more accessible green spaces. Queen's Park promises to integrate diverse amenities such as flexible spaces like a great lawn for recreation and events, cultural hubs to showcase arts and host festivals, natural preserves that restore ecosystems and add tree cover and connections to existing trails and infrastructure, linking surrounding neighborhoods and promoting walkability. The park is intended to bridge and unite eight neighborhoods divided by industrial zones, fostering inclusivity and urban renewal. Advocates liken its potential impact to New York's Central Park or Chicago's Millennium Park, emphasizing its role in enhancing quality of life, culture, and sustainability ❗ While the vision is compelling, challenges remain. Securing funding and addressing competing land-use needs complicate progress. For example, parts of the site have recently been allocated for light rail storage, underscoring the complexity of balancing infrastructure with public space development

#EngagedLibraries bring local history alive. 📖 Public libraries are always thinking of new ways to expand their reach into the community. The Engaging Beyond Our Walls project builds on this concept by helping libraries create neighborhood games and interactive stories that share important local history. Last semester, my project was born out of the question: what if neighborhood spaces were designed for connection? This topic has been on my mind recently because so many people say “your college years will be your best.” Yet I wondered how much of this was actually due to the college stage vs the livability of a campus where everything you need is a short walk away. With communities dominated by cars and the rise of urban sprawl, the average American is much more isolated than before. They have little-to-no community in the immediate vicinity and must drive everywhere to maintain social connection and community. I decided to tackle this isolation by reimagining a space many neighborhoods already have: the community center. Nbrhd Block is a product brand that reimagines community centers by providing adaptable alternatives tailored to the needs of the community. Neighbors can collaboratively build spaces by adding and customizing modules, ensuring the community center is a meaningful space to the entire neighborhood. By adding local public spaces, neighbors are essentially creating their own 15-minute city and establishing more community nearby (proven to have improvements for health and well-being).
