A webinar not to be missed for freshwater and wetland ecologists in consulting💧The SA Wetland Society is hosting another installment of their webinar series on Thursday the 4th of April at 12:00pm. This webinar will be hosted by Steven Ellery, one of GroundTruth's wetland specialists, and will be presented by Dean Ollis from the Inland Waters Consultancy. Dean has been involved in the update to the Risk Assessment Matrix and has contributed to the amendment of the legislation surrounding the general authorisation (GA) process. This webinar will focus on how the new GA relates specifically to wetlands and how the new Risk Assessment Matrix can be applied when assessing wetlands. Dean will present a series of hypothetical case studies to illustrate the application of the Risk Assessment Matrix. The webinar will have an extended Q&A session after Dean's presentation. The webinar is free for all SA Wetland Society members and will cost R60 for all non-members. South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP) registered attendees will be able to claim 0.2 CPD points for their attendance. You may register for the webinar here: https://lnkd.in/dkSj9BHp #GroundTruth #SAwetlandsociety #riskassessmentmatrix #generalauthorisation #wetlands

I've been reflecting on my interview with Dr Jacoba Matapo and I'm concerned about the impact of government funding cuts on Pacific institutions. With frequent government changes, it's crucial to find sustainable solutions for Pacific organizations that rely heavily on government funding to support their vital work in strengthening and uplifting Pacific communities. To mitigate these risks, I believe we should explore diversifying funding sources and fostering unity among Pacific organizations to share resources and expertise. This would enable them to continue delivering essential outcomes even in uncertain financial times. It's disheartening to see projects discontinued due to funding shortages… what steps do you think we could take to develop better strategies for better risk management and ensure the long-term viability of our Pacific institutions?
