In many congregations, there is an implicit understanding that clergy are called to serve their faith community with dedication, passion, and tireless energy. However, this noble calling often comes with a set of unrealistic expectations that make it difficult for clergy to thrive, both personally and professionally. From inadequate compensation to overwhelming demands on their time, clergy are frequently placed in positions where they are expected to give far more than is reasonable, often at the expense of their own well-being. Let’s take a closer look at some of these expectations and how they impact clergy and the congregations they serve. https://lnkd.in/gEFcu8-D

𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗵𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗵'𝘀 𝗽𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲, 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀. I remember thinking that an invitation to partner in a community project was just another task on my to-do list. But then, something amazing happened. It taught me a powerful lesson. When we responded to that call to serve, we weren’t just doing another outreach program—we were becoming a beacon of hope in our city. Years ago, I was pastoring a church plant. A local organization reached out to us with an opportunity. This lady came to me and said, "Hey, would you guys partner with us?" She was full of excitement about the impact we could make, and in that moment, I knew we had to join her. "Anytime outreach was happening, you know we were going to bring at least 50 people to really serve the city." Guess what? We did it! We rallied the troops and showed up in numbers, bringing at least 50 people. And through our actions, we sent a strong message: our church is dedicated to making a difference. Here's the powerful truth: Community service isn't just about filling a need—it's about demonstrating God's love in action. Whenever you get an opportunity to serve, jump in with your whole heart. Let your actions be a testament to your faith and commitment. Serving the community doesn’t just help others; it strengthens your church. It forges bonds between members, reinforces your shared mission, and shows the world the power of a unified, purpose-driven congregation. God uses every chance to serve as an opportunity to grow your church’s impact. So, if you're a pastor or church leader, take the lead. Inspire your congregation to go out and make a difference. Remember, you never serve alone; God’s with you every step of the way. When your church steps up to serve, you can walk with a sense of pride and purpose, knowing that you’re not just doing outreach—you’re transforming lives. #ChurchLeadership #CommunityService #FaithInAction #TransformingLives #ChurchGrowth #ServeWithPurpose #LeadingWithLove

Why Structure Matters in Church... Church leadership is a unique challenge. We're called to guide communities empowered by the Holy Spirit, each on a distinct path within God's kingdom (Ephesians 4:11-12). Yet, strong communities need structure to flourish. Structure provides a framework for growth, ensuring everyone has a place to contribute their gifts (1 Corinthians 14:40). It empowers volunteers and staff, fosters collaboration, and helps manage resources effectively. This allows the Holy Spirit's work to truly blossom within the community. In the next post, we'll explore some practical ways to create structures that empower your church and honor the Spirit's guidance. Stay tuned! #churchleadership #HolySpirit #community #organizationaldesign

Thriving, Not Just Surviving: Leading in the In-Between: Gloo's network of lighthouse churches is living out a powerful truth in a world searching for answers: Churches, we're called to lead in an unfinished world—that sacred space between the "already" of Christ's resurrection and the "not yet" of His return. The space between Christ's resurrection and return isn't a waiting room—it's our mission field. This is liminality, where transformation takes root and flourishes. We see it daily: churches reimagining outreach, launching community initiatives, and bridging divides. Our churches aren't just enduring cultural shifts—they're leading through them with purpose and grace. From urban centers to rural communities, Gloo's Lighthouse network is: - Building innovative discipleship programs that speak to today's questions! - Creating spaces where both healing and growth flourish! - Partnering with local organizations to meet real needs! - Developing leaders who navigate change with biblical wisdom! The "in-between" isn't holding us back—it's propelling us forward. As God promised, "Behold, I am making all things new" (Rev. 21:5). This promise isn't just future hope; it's present reality in our churches. Together, we're not merely maintaining—we're multiplying impact. Each congregation in our network tells a story of God's faithfulness and innovation working hand-in-hand. Ready to see what thriving looks like in your context? Connect with our network of churches leading the way. #Gloo #Ministryinnovation #Leadershipinnovation

Every month I get the privilege of facilitating cohorts with some incredible leaders from organizations around the country on best principles, practices and postures of church engagement. Basically, we talk about how nonprofits can most effectively cultivate trust-based and mutually beneficial relationships with churches. We discuss a variety of topics, all within the big, overarching theme of this one thing: We are FOR the Church, not merely trying to get FROM the Church. That shift in posture creates an avalanche of implications on the ways that we approach, communicate with and invite churches into next steps. If you are a church leader, you know - this is not the norm of how nonprofits often approach you. They historically have had a FROM posture - we need your people, your time, your money, your pulpit, your bulletin...and your church van while we're at it! :) In May we're pausing those cohorts and hosting a webinar that will dive deeper into a particular aspect of church engagement that is especially compelling and provides a framework of thinking that becomes critically important to maintaining that FOR posture all the more. If this at all resonates with you and the work you do, I'd love to have you join us. New Friends, Honoring Elders, and Persevering Together I can't believe the final day of the Christian Community Development Association (CCDA) in Portland has already come and gone. It’s been an incredible few days of community, inspiration, and deep reflection. One of the biggest takeaways for me is the importance of pastoring and shepherding—true pastoral care beyond just building platforms and gaining followers. As Christian leaders, our communities need us to be present, loving, and actively invested in their lives. The beauty of CCDA (Christian Community Development Association) is its support for those called to serve in the margins, with people society may have left behind. I've witnessed firsthand how necessary it is to nurture these reformers, many of whom often find themselves without a traditional church to lean on. A special moment was when we honored our elders in this movement. Seeing Tracy Hipps, who's been leading for over 35 years, receive recognition was a powerful reminder of the deep, consistent dedication that is required for transformation. Leaders like Tracy have been instrumental in bridging communities and have inspired so many of us to continue striving for justice and hope. Lastly, I attended a workshop by Bruce and Helen Strom from Administer Justice on sustaining health in ministry, inspired by Bruce’s book Persevering Power. It was a timely encouragement for me and others juggling family, ministry, and personal well-being. If you need some inspiration for when life feels overwhelming, I highly recommend picking up this book. To my fellow leaders—whether you're nurturing communities or navigating change—stay steadfast. The work is challenging, but it's essential. #CCDA #CommunityDevelopment #Leadership #PastoralCare #WellBeing #Perseverance https://lnkd.in/etQEW2Jd
