In many congregations, there is an implicit understanding that clergy are called to serve their faith community with dedication, passion, and tireless energy. However, this noble calling often comes with a set of unrealistic expectations that make it difficult for clergy to thrive, both personally and professionally. From inadequate compensation to overwhelming demands on their time, clergy are frequently placed in positions where they are expected to give far more than is reasonable, often at the expense of their own well-being. Let’s take a closer look at some of these expectations and how they impact clergy and the congregations they serve. https://lnkd.in/gEFcu8-D

Every month I get the privilege of facilitating cohorts with some incredible leaders from organizations around the country on best principles, practices and postures of church engagement. Basically, we talk about how nonprofits can most effectively cultivate trust-based and mutually beneficial relationships with churches. We discuss a variety of topics, all within the big, overarching theme of this one thing: We are FOR the Church, not merely trying to get FROM the Church. That shift in posture creates an avalanche of implications on the ways that we approach, communicate with and invite churches into next steps. If you are a church leader, you know - this is not the norm of how nonprofits often approach you. They historically have had a FROM posture - we need your people, your time, your money, your pulpit, your bulletin...and your church van while we're at it! :) In May we're pausing those cohorts and hosting a webinar that will dive deeper into a particular aspect of church engagement that is especially compelling and provides a framework of thinking that becomes critically important to maintaining that FOR posture all the more. If this at all resonates with you and the work you do, I'd love to have you join us. 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗵𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗵'𝘀 𝗽𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲, 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀. I remember thinking that an invitation to partner in a community project was just another task on my to-do list. But then, something amazing happened. It taught me a powerful lesson. When we responded to that call to serve, we weren’t just doing another outreach program—we were becoming a beacon of hope in our city. Years ago, I was pastoring a church plant. A local organization reached out to us with an opportunity. This lady came to me and said, "Hey, would you guys partner with us?" She was full of excitement about the impact we could make, and in that moment, I knew we had to join her. "Anytime outreach was happening, you know we were going to bring at least 50 people to really serve the city." Guess what? We did it! We rallied the troops and showed up in numbers, bringing at least 50 people. And through our actions, we sent a strong message: our church is dedicated to making a difference. Here's the powerful truth: Community service isn't just about filling a need—it's about demonstrating God's love in action. Whenever you get an opportunity to serve, jump in with your whole heart. Let your actions be a testament to your faith and commitment. Serving the community doesn’t just help others; it strengthens your church. It forges bonds between members, reinforces your shared mission, and shows the world the power of a unified, purpose-driven congregation. God uses every chance to serve as an opportunity to grow your church’s impact. So, if you're a pastor or church leader, take the lead. Inspire your congregation to go out and make a difference. Remember, you never serve alone; God’s with you every step of the way. When your church steps up to serve, you can walk with a sense of pride and purpose, knowing that you’re not just doing outreach—you’re transforming lives. #ChurchLeadership #CommunityService #FaithInAction #TransformingLives #ChurchGrowth #ServeWithPurpose #LeadingWithLove

We hope environmental organizations will continue to embrace increasing the use of biofuels as one of their goals to reduce the carbon content and toxic emissions from every gallon of gasoline and diesel in every vehicle every day. The path to a healthier environment and environmental justice has to be paved with cleaner fuels and powered by educated consumers. While new markets and technologies for electric vehicles continue to develop, there are no good reasons not to use biofuels to replace the benzene and benzene-laced aromatics in gasoline and diesel fuel. #gasolinegate

For many clergy, their work is rooted in justice, compassion, and transformation. Whether through sermons, pastoral care, or community leadership, they’ve been champions for change. What happens, though, when the call to serve expands beyond the church walls? For clergy considering nonprofit advocacy, the leap is less of a career change and more of a natural extension of their ministry. Having spent two decades in ministry before stepping into the role of Chief Operating Officer at a faith-based advocacy organization, I’ve experienced firsthand how seamlessly the skills developed in ministry can carry over to nonprofit leadership. Advocacy work became an opportunity to extend my calling, confronting systemic challenges and uplifting communities in ways I hadn’t imagined before. In this post, I want to share insights for clergy considering this shift, illustrating how their pastoral experiences naturally align with advocacy roles and providing practical steps to navigate the transition. https://lnkd.in/gEfVXQcx
