Despite the rising demand for better leaders, current leadership development models aren't keeping up. On one end, there are intensive offsite events that reach only a select few. Leadership Strategies to Combat Short-term CEO Appointments Leadership strategies to combat short-term CEO appointments involve thoughtful consideration. At issue, for reasons too many to enumerate CEO terms continue to diminish, but the organization must continue to operate successfully to survive. It is difficult to maintain direction in the organization when the top leader keeps changing. First, organizations are learning that a heroic leader at the top does not always equate to success and survival. Each leadership role is unique. A fundamental truth that is frequently overlooked in succession planning. Unconscious biases, including stereotyping, subjectivity, and shortcutting, often lead boards to conclusions that may not be optimal for the future success of the organization. Critical inquiries from a business and leadership expert are often essential to grasp the unique aspects of the particular business and organizational context. Utilizing this information to establish the criteria for CEO success is key to making the leadership selection right, while avoiding all (human) noise. MU has pioneered an unrivalled science-based approach to leader succession and selection. We can prove we get it right more than 90% of the time.
