Gift That Child The Power of choice. As the holiday season approaches, excitement fills the air. Families line up at malls, eager to capture that perfect moment with Santa. But amidst the joy, there’s a crucial conversation waiting to happen. Years ago, as a young mother, I was guilty of this myself. My son was terrified and frozen in fear, yet I pushed him to take a picture with Santa. Looking back, I realize that I missed an important lesson about consent and respecting his feelings. What if we paused for a moment? Instead of forcing our children into uncomfortable situations, let’s ask them how they feel about meeting Santa. Imagine the impact, by honoring their choice, whether they want to engage or not. You’re teaching them about boundaries and body autonomy. This holiday season, let’s create a new tradition. If your child wants to sit on Santa’s lap, be there with them. If they don’t, respect their decision wholeheartedly. Let’s celebrate the magic of choice and ensure our children feel safe and empowered during this festive time. After all, it’s not just about capturing a moment; it’s about fostering confidence in their own voices. How do you encourage your child to express their feelings during holiday traditions? Share your thoughts below Please repost this post to spread the message of empowerment and choice! #EmpoweredKids #HolidayTradition #EmpowerToPrevent #PhoenixGates #100DaysShowUpWithZuria

The Gift of Quality Time with Your Children 🌟 In our busy lives, it’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle, especially during the holiday season. But what children truly treasure—and will remember well into adulthood—is the quality time spent with them. 💛 Quality time shows them how much you care, how deeply they are loved, and that no material gift can compare to the gift of your presence. This season, take time to connect with your children: 📖 Read Together: Explore classic titles like The Snowy Day, Peter’s Chair, or The Giving Tree. Stories captivate their imagination and create lasting memories. 🧠 Tell Stories: Make up a tale as you go—it sparks their curiosity and keeps them engaged. 🎨 Get Creative: Color, play with Play-Doh, or even make your own Play-Doh together. Simple activities create priceless moments. 💬 Listen and Talk: Spend just 15 minutes a day connecting with your child. Whether it’s a conversation, a shared laugh, or a small activity, those moments are what they’ll cherish forever. As life speeds by, let’s slow down and give our children the best gift of all—our time and love. These moments will be remembered long after the season has passed. How do you make time for quality moments with your kids? Share your favorite ideas below! #ParentingTips #QualityTime #FamilyFirst #HolidaySeason #MemoriesMatter

Thankful Thursday Tip for November 28: Share Gratitude with Family and Friends On this Thanksgiving, encourage your child to express gratitude for the people who have made a difference in their life. Celebrating and sharing appreciation together strengthens bonds and teaches the importance of valuing others. For Young Children (Ages 3-7): Step 1: Create a “Thankful Hands” Craft Trace their hands on paper and write (or help them write) one person they’re thankful for on each finger. Step 2: Share the Thankful Hands Have your child share the names and reasons with family at Thanksgiving dinner. Example: They might say, “I’m thankful for Grandma because she makes yummy cookies” or “I’m thankful for my friend for playing with me.” For School-Aged Children (Ages 8-12): Step 1: Write Thank-You Notes Encourage your child to write short thank-you notes to family members, expressing specific reasons why they’re grateful for them. Step 2: Give the Notes in Person Let them hand out these notes during Thanksgiving, watching the joy it brings to their loved ones. Example: They might write, “Thank you, Uncle John, for always helping me with my science projects.” For Teens (Ages 13+): Step 1: Encourage Verbal Expressions of Thanks Challenge your teen to verbally thank family members for the support, guidance, or friendship they’ve given over the past year. Step 2: Reflect Together After Thanksgiving, discuss how sharing appreciation made them feel and strengthened connections. Example: A teen might say, “Thank you for always being there when I need to talk” to a sibling or “I appreciate your support” to a grandparent. Challenge for Parents and Kids Today, share a heartfelt “thank you” with each family member. Reflect on how this practice deepens family bonds and cultivates a grateful spirit in your household. 🎄Here are some tips to help make the Christmas period fun and stress-free for autistic children: 🔹Maintain Routine: Try to keep daily routines as consistent as possible. Use visual schedules to help children understand any changes in their routines. 🔹Prepare for Sensory Overload: Christmas can be overwhelming with lights, sounds, and smells. Create a quiet space where your child can retreat if they feel overwhelmed. 🔹Involve Your Child in Planning: Let your child help with decorating or planning activities. This can give them a sense of control and reduce anxiety. 🔹Use Visual Supports: Visual aids like countdown calendars or social stories can help children understand what to expect during the festive season. 🔹Flexible Traditions: Adapt traditional activities to suit your child’s preferences. For example, if they are sensitive to certain foods, prepare a meal they enjoy instead of the traditional Christmas dinner. 🔹Communicate with Family and Friends: Inform family members and friends about your child’s needs and preferences to ensure everyone is on the same page. 🔹Gradual Changes: Introduce decorations gradually to help your child adjust to the changes in their environment. 🔹Sensory-Friendly Activities: Engage in activities that your child enjoys and finds calming, such as sensory play or quiet crafts. These strategies can help create a more enjoyable and less stressful Christmas for autistic children and their families. 🎄💙 #statewiderehab #christmas #autismawareness
