Centennial fast-tracks construction on Geebung Industrial Park as two new tenants secured by JLL and Cushman & Wakefield Centennial accelerated the start of construction on the final stage of Geebung Industrial Park in Brisbane's inner north, and securing two new tenants with assistance of agents Morgan Ruig of Cushman Wakefield and Gibson Leembruggen of JLL. According to Centennial's Head of Institutional Funds, Alex Edwards the company was delighted with the rapid progress of the Geebung estate's transformation from an under rented B-grade facility into an institutional grade industrial asset, being built by leading Queensland company, McNab Constructions. "We're also very pleased to welcome one of Queensland’s oldest established building and supplies groups, Bretts Trade Timber and Hardware expected to move into two refurbished warehouses, on the eastern perimeter of stage two in February 2025, together with Rohde & Schwarz which operates in around 70 countries. Agents responsible for negotiating the new tenancy deals, Morgan Ruig of Cushman Wakefield and Gibson Leembruggen of JLL, said both parties were drawn to Geebung Industrial Park based on its ease of access and connectivity to the major arterial routes including the Gateway Motorway and connections to the port, airport and CBD - all crucial to both businesses' operations. Buddle Findlay is pleased to have advised Asmuss Steel & Flow Control (Asmuss) on the development and long-term lease of its new NZ$42m office and steel warehouse in Drury, south of Auckland. The facility, which officially opened on 28 November 2024, was designed and built exclusively for Asmuss and comprises over 15,000m2 of warehouse space – sufficient to store twice the amount of steel used to build the Auckland harbour bridge - and a 400m2 two-storey office. The facility is also notable from an environmental and sustainability perspective, being the first building in New Zealand to achieve a 5 Star Green Star design rating under the New Zealand Green Building Council's recently released v1.1 guidelines. On Site at Basinghall Avenue Orbit recently visited one of our sustainable retrofit projects in the City of London, currently being delivered in collaboration with Stiff + Trevillion Architects and BW: Workplace Experts. The project is taking shape at the headquarters of Standard Chartered Bank in London, at 1 Basinghall Avenue. The ground floor entrance lobby will be remodelled to enable space for a new cafe or restaurant. Future employees can look forward to enjoying a new rooftop terrace, with biodiverse greening, as well as enhanced end of journey facilities at basement level. The project involves a full replacement of the building’s primary shell and core infrastructure, to significantly reduce the building’s carbon footprint. All while the building is partially occupied. We have been talking about our work with London councils on #retrofit for some time now, but what is retrofit? With the UK having some of the oldest housing in Europe, heat is constantly lost through the walls and windows, making UK housing increasingly inefficient. A solution to this is retrofitting. This involves the improvement of buildings and their infrastructure to become more energy efficient, transforming old structures into modern, sustainable spaces without the need for demolition and new construction. The Bourn building, Coventry: with a £9 million investment by IM Properties Plc, the Bourn building was able to reduce 14,000 tonnes COe compared to a new-build alternative. Leroy House, Islington: At Leroy House in Islington, Workspace Group has demonstrated the carbon and commercial benefits of reviving existing spaces. North Quay House, Bristol: Upon its refurbishment by Legal & General Investment Management (LGIM) Real Assets, the building shows lower embodied emissions than industry targets, highlighting the benefits of renovating existing structures. Triton Square, London: By challenging conventional refurbishment methods and reusing existing materials, British Land successfully minimised carbon emissions and construction costs of this central London asset.
