"I’ve written code for McGraw Hill for most of my professional career, having first pursued this career with the ALEKS platform before the company acquired it in 2013. I think most people would be surprised that my undergraduate major was in science. Coding was part of my undergrad requirements, and I enjoyed it, so I decided to explore my career options within the industry. At the time, the dot com era was taking off and no one knew the possibilities of the internet. In the beginning, the industry was male-dominated, which for some could be daunting, but it was something I was used to given my science background. But that’s not really the case anymore. If you speak to women today, they’re inspired by the opportunity to pursue a career in Computer Science, and eager to support one another in this industry – and the same goes for men. It’s an industry that welcomes representation for all. One of the most rewarding parts of my job is the feedback we receive from our customers. Just recently, we received a note about a student struggling in math, but with the help of our product, they’ve seen a dramatic improvement in their performance. As a technical lead, all of my work is behind the scenes and I don’t get the opportunity to meet the students who use our products, but knowing I've helped a student succeed and gain confidence in a subject area is gratifying. To do this work alongside such an incredible team makes it even more wonderful." #WomensHistoryMonth #Inspireinclusion #RedCubeProud
