Are active middle ear implants (AMEI) beneficial for adults younger or older than 60? In this retrospective study, J. Manuel Morales-Puebla et al. compared age-related outcomes of 20 adults younger and older than 60 who were implanted with the AMEI, VIBRANT SOUNDBRIDGE, between February 2008 and May 2022. Outcomes compared included audiological, surgical, quality of life, and sound quality. Most patients had chronic ear with a previous middle ear reconstruction, while two older adults had unusual indications. The study concluded, “VSB is an effective method of hearing restoration for conductive or mixed hearing loss. Age is not a limiting factor for VSB surgery.” Read more details of this Journal of Personalized Medicine article here: https://lnkd.in/dWQE6WVZ #activemiddleearimplant #olderadults #medresearch

What's the difference between an optometrist and an ophthalmologist? While it might seem like a basic question, you'd be surprised how often this comes up! This graphic does a nice job of highlighting the differences between the two. Although they both are eye specialists, they possess different levels of training and expertise. You'll likely see an optometrist if you need a vision screening, glasses or contact prescription, or minor procedures like removing something from your eye. For neurological, eye-related problems, eye disease treatment, and surgery, you'll head over to your local ophthalmologist's office. #Optometrists #Ophthalmologists #EyeCare

Dr. Seth Willen explains that treatments for ear infections and hearing loss vary based on the cause. Ear infections can range from swimmer's ear to middle ear effusion, requiring treatments from observation to antibiotics or even surgery. Hearing loss might be due to aging, noise exposure, or treatable conditions like fluid in the ear. There is no standard form used to obtain a medical history for tinnitus patients. Clinicians usually develop their own form. Importantly, the American Academy of Otolaryngology--Head & Neck Surgery (AAO-HNSF), in its clinical practice guideline for tinnitus, includes recommendations for performing a “targeted history.” Some of the AAO-HNSF’s recommendations for conducting a medical history pertain to symptoms of secondary tinnitus ("objective" tinnitus, or "somatosounds"). They are listed below as questions that would be asked during the interview. · Have you experienced sudden-onset hearing loss (with or without tinnitus)? · Is your tinnitus in only one ear or one side of the head (unilateral tinnitus)? · Do you have unilateral or asymmetric (more on one side than the other) hearing loss? · Does your tinnitus pulsate along with your heartbeat? · Do you experience dizziness or vertigo?

As an optometrist, I’m always on the lookout for advancements that can improve my patients’ quality of life. The recent release of Presvu, a presbyopic eye drop, represents an exciting new option for those struggling with near vision issues. This innovative treatment offers a non-invasive solution, allowing presbyopes to reduce dependence on reading glasses by improving their near vision through pupil modulation. While it’s not a one-size-fits-all remedy, Presvu opens up possibilities for patients seeking alternatives to multifocal lenses or corrective surgery. As with any new treatment, I’ll be evaluating its long-term efficacy and suitability for different patient profiles. Exciting times ahead in the field of optometry! #Optometry #Presbyopia #EyeCare #Presvu #VisionHealth #InnovativeEyeCare #VisionSolutions #PresbyopicDrops #PatientCare #NonInvasiveTreatment #EyeHealth #VisionCorrection #OptometristInsights #EyeCareInnovation #ModernOptometry

We are fighting against the 'Mallet Mentality'. Using Mallets feels outdated and... brutal... in modern spine surgery. Hammering implants into place belongs in the past. As JC Leveque (Head of Department, Neurosurgery at Virginia Mason Franciscan Health) observes: "You're having to try to force larger and larger devices into a space that can be fairly collapsed... it puts stress upon the end plates, stress upon the vertebral bodies." But there's a more elegant approach. Leading surgeons are embracing technologies that allow for methodical, precise adjustments: - Place endplates first in a collapsed fashion - Position precisely under direct visualisation - Trial different core options - Verify placement with imaging - Select and insert the ideal core The future of spine surgery isn't about brute strength - it's about precision instruments that let surgeons express their expertise through subtle, exact movements that complex spinal procedures demand. As Dr. Leveque puts it: "Everything just goes down the centre of that inserter. You put the end plates where you want them, and then you can focus on each next step." For our spine surgeon colleagues: How has your approach to precision evolved throughout your career? What innovations have helped you move beyond the 'mallet mentality'? #SpineSurgery #SurgicalInnovation #PatientCare #SurgicalPrecision #ALIF #SpineCare

Before purchasing a magnifier, ensure you can affirmatively answer these questions: Have you consulted your local Optometrist and confirmed that conventional spectacles won't improve your vision? Have you been examined by an Ophthalmologist and determined that medical or surgical treatment won't improve your vision? Have you discussed your visual difficulties with your GP and concluded that no further help is available through medical treatment, surgery, or conventional spectacles? Only after confirming these points should you consider using magnifying aids. Remember, while magnifying devices won't harm your vision, it's crucial to exhaust conventional and medical options first. Breast augmentation, a cosmetic surgical procedure to enhance the size and shape of the breasts, has a long and fascinating history. The first recorded breast augmentation surgery took place over a century ago, in 1895. The pioneering patient was a German opera singer, who sought the procedure due to concerns about the asymmetry of her breasts. This early medical intervention marked the beginning of a field that has since evolved significantly, with advances in surgical techniques and a growing demand for this type of aesthetic enhancement. The German singer's decision to undergo this groundbreaking procedure showcases how the desire to achieve physical proportions that align with personal ideals of beauty is not a modern phenomenon, but has deep historical roots. 👉CLICK https://lnkd.in/gxR3miuh #AstheticaBeauty #breastlift #breastimplant #breastaugmentation #aestheticsurgery #MedicalTransformation #ConfidentBeauty #LuxuryMedical #medicaltourism #cosmeticsurgeryabroad #globalcosmeticprocedures #cosmeticdestinations #travelandtransform #beautywithoutborders #astheticaworldwide #medicaltourismexperts #safetravelsurgery #transformationsacrossnations

👨⚕️ As a spine surgeon, my work extends well beyond the operating room. An equally important part of my job is the time I spend in the clinic, carefully evaluating and counseling patients. In this video, you’ll see a glimpse of what goes on during a typical office visit — listening to a patient, performing a thorough physical exam, and analyzing imaging studies. I use this information to develop personalized plans to help my patients feel better, often without the need for surgery. Education is key, and I take the time to explain spinal issues and treatment options. Every patient deserves to understand their condition and feel empowered in their healthcare journey. #SpineCare #PatientFirst #EducationMatters #EndoscopicSpineSurgery #BackPain #NeckPain #SciaticaRelief Texas Back Institute
