On 22 May, the Portuguese partners of the NaturaConnect project, together with several stakeholders, gathered at the Tapada de Mafra for the 2nd Think Tank of the project to discuss the possibilities of public and private funding for biodiversity conservation in the context of climate change. Besides Miguel B. Araújo, who led this initiative, MED - Instituto Mediterrâneo para a Agricultura, Ambiente e Desenvolvimento was also represented by Carla Janeiro, who presented her research project on Biodiversity Credits as a solution to mobilize private financing for biodiversity conservation. How can we better fund nature conservation in Portugal🇵🇹? What legal and political tools are necessary? How can we boost #biodiversitycredits and increase private and philanthropic investment in #naturalcapital? Yesterday, we had an inspiring meeting with high-level businesses, public administration agencies, NGOs, foundations, and universities to explore funding opportunities and actions needed for biodiversity conservation and climate change adaptation. This was the second gathering of the NaturaConnect Think Tank, an initiative led by Miguel Bastos Araújo, which I am proud to coordinate and facilitate, with the support of Rosário Oliveira. Together, we tackled the challenges and brainstormed innovative pathways for a sustainable future. More to come, soon! Thank you to all who've joined us at Tapada Nacional de Mafra, I couldn't think of a better way of celebrating the International Day of Biological Diversity🌳 With the participation of Instituto da Conservação da Natureza e das Florestas (ICNF), SONAE, E-REDES, LPN - Liga para a Protecção da Natureza, Rewilding Portugal, Rewilding Europe, ANP/WWF, BIOPOLIS-CIBIO, The Navigator Company, Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, German Centre for Integrative Biodiversity Research (iDiv) Halle-Jena-Leipzig BCSD Portugal - Conselho Empresarial para o Desenvolvimento Sustentável.
