Enjoyed listening to the first talk of the series on ODAC odyssey. Conversations on Cancer: ODAC Chronicles – the Past, Present, and Future of Oncology Advisory Committees by the @OCE at FDA Very well moderated by Nicholas Richardson and Rea Blakey. The first panel included past and present medical oncologist/hematologist and touched upon some of the key aspects of ODAC. Lively discussion on what makes a good ODAC chair, a good voting question and should it be dropped (no, it is needed!), should the single briefing document be brought back, requiring financial disclosures for the public hearing, drug pricing in the discussion and more. What resonated with me is the discussion of public service and that the effort that goes in participating on a panel and the acknowledgement that it is the culmination of hours and hours of preparation from both the industry and the FDA teams. Brought back some bittersweet memories of my own participation in ODACs and the friendships and relationships that were forged along the way at the FDA. After more than a year of dedicated effort, the AACI Standard Development Committee has officially released DRAFT 2 of the Clinical Standard for Oncology Services, now open for public consultation. This set of standards is crafted to establish a robust framework for quality assurance, process improvement, risk assessment, and creating a safer environment within Cancer Care Centers. 'This standard will not only address the current void in oncology care but will also offer actionable pathways to enhance treatment results for patients. I want to extend my sincere gratitude to all who were involved, especially the members of the Standard Development Committee, as well as everyone who shared their expertise to refine and strengthen these standards.'- said John D. In May, Johnson & Johnson (J&J) offered $6.48 billion to resolve more than 99% of #ovariancancer claims. Last week, we reported J&J #settled for $700 million with 42 states and Washington, D.C., that were investigating the company's alleged "#misleading" marketing. Now the company faces a new #classaction seeking damages and medical monitoring, as well as evidence from a recent study "supporting a positive association" between #intimatecare products including genital talc with ovarian cancer. Regarding the study, Erik Haas, J&J’s legal chief, stated this study does not change "the overwhelming evidence that talcum powder does not cause ovarian cancer." He added that J&J believes these claims will be dismissed following Daubert review and noted that the study results "do not explicitly establish causality." J&J's path through #talclawsuits is long, winding and confusing.
