I recently had the honor of moderating an engaging and insightful virtual and live (hybrid) session that focused on the intersection of enterprise solutions and private sector efficiencies with the public health sector in Africa, with a special emphasis on Nigeria. - Bright Chimezie Irem | AfriPharm Medicals Group Good morning, fellow Global Citizens, and guardians of public trust. We convene here today to bring our knowledge together in order to bridge the critical gap between private sector agility and public healthcare needs. We are seizing this important moment to initiate, inspire and catalyze transformative changes in tje direction of oir focus and vision. Our shared vision for a healthier future hangs on our ability to unite simple innovative technology and strategic partnerships. Together, we have the (enterprise) power to redefine healthcare, making it more accessible, efficient, and equitable for all. Let's get into on this journey with resolve, charting an enterprise course toward design solutions that will guarantee the efficnet healthcare needs of our generation and of generations to come. Here is a summary of my session. 1. Our discussion began by recognizing the significant opportunities that the health market in Africa presents for transformative change, especially in improving public health systems. We looked into how design-thinking technology, particularly digital health platforms and telemedicine, can make healthcare more accessible and efficient, breaking down barriers to care. 2. We explored the crucial role of data analytics in shaping health policies and improving service delivery, emphasizing the need for decisions to be driven by clear, empirical evidence. The session was enriched by a variety of case studies from within Africa and beyond, demonstrating how private sector strategies can significantly enhance public health outcomes. The dialogue was characterized by a strong sense of collaboration and shared sense of urgency and purpose among the participants, who ranged from professionals to policy experts. We engaged in an extensive exchange of ideas, challenging each other to think outside-the-box and creatively about how to leverage the private sector's efficiency, agility and resourcefulness to strengthen public health services. 3. As we concluded, there was a consensus on the importance of fostering partnerships between the public and private sectors. The need for innovative approaches to healthcare delivery was clear, as was the call for policies that support such collaborations. 4. Thrilled to have participated in the 3rd Africa HealthTech Summit in Kigali (Oct 29-31) alongside my PATH colleagues Betty Mirembe (Uganda Country Director), Amos Mugisha (Tanzania Country Director), Fatou Fall (Africa Regional Director Digital Health), and Mamadou Mballo DIALLO (Senegal Digital Health Lead). The summit's focus on "Innovating for Community Health, Resilience, and Wellbeing by Unlocking the Power of #AI and Emerging Technologies" perfectly aligns with PATH's mission as a #digitalhealth partner of Africa CDC and our leadership in digital health integration across the region. During his keynote address, Jean Philbert NSENGIMANA (FAPH), Africa CDC Chief Digital Advisor, outlined a compelling Five P's framework for digital health transformation in Africa: 🌟 #People: Serving communities - youth, women, rural populations, healthcare workers, and ensuring solutions reach the last mile. 📋 #Policies: Creating enabling environments through policies, regulations, and laws that foster innovation. 🤝 #Partnerships: Bringing together public, private, and not-for-profit sectors to combine expertise, knowledge, technology, and resources. 💻 #Platforms: Leveraging technology, programs, and products to create concrete solutions and marketplace opportunities. 📈 #Profits: Ensuring sustainability through private sector investments and market-driven approaches. I recently participated in a healthcare stakeholders dialogue forum organized by PharmAccess and Africa Health Business . It was an honor to share lessons from PharmAccess ' #UHC pilot innovations and how these insights are shaping UHC implementation in Kenya. Key Messages: 1. Prioritizing Quality: Focusing on quality builds trust, satisfaction, and investments, leading to a stronger health system. 2. Collaborative Strengths: Leveraging each other's strengths through collaboration ensures UHC success. 3. Healthcare Reforms and Digital Health: Kenya's reforms is an opportunity for data-informed decision-making, fostering a proactive, robust health system; The country's prioritization of digital health is commendable and timely for use of information for a patient-centric, transparent, and accountable system. Kenya's Digital superhighway has the potential to drive public health, advance research, and improve healthcare delivery, ensuring no one is left behind. PharmAccess continues to champion dialogue with stakeholders as we demonstrate innovations for health systems strengthening in SSA. As a consumer of Kenya's healthcare, alongside my loved ones, contributing to its success for all, including the less privileged in society, is deeply motivating. 💡 Collaborating to Drive #DigitalHealth Transformation Across Africa! We recently convened the AU Member States Digital Health Leaders Forum and hosted a panel on “Perspectives of Digital Health Implementation in Africa” at the Africa HealthTech Summit - AHTS, in collaboration with Africa CDC. These events provided a unique platform for digital health coordinators from African Union member states’ to share insights, learn from one another, and strengthen collaboration. While many countries face similar challenges in implementing their respective digital health, their solutions often carry unique perspectives that can inspire new approaches elsewhere. By bringing these voices together, we can foster a stronger, more unified movement towards sustainable digital health transformation across the continent.
