As co-course director with the esteemed Dr. Anas Hamad, PhD, MSc, DMS, BSc, RPh Director of Pharmacy Department NCCCR & Head of Medication Safety & Quality Center #HMC. Delighted to share med safety pearls from our successful kickoff webinar "Introduction to #Medication Safety" of new series "Optimizing #MedicationSafety in #PrimaryCare & #Outpatient Settings" Expressing gratitude to Dr. Anas for his insight, expertise & ongoing support & great presentation which illustrated why medication safety is crucial. 4 pearls deeply resonated: 1) The interesting exploration of the historical context from the dualities of Apollo as both "God of Physics & sender of disease" & Pharmakos which means "remedy & poison" to the timeless Hippocratic principle of "first do no harm," highlighying the complexity of medication safety 2) Medications are the most common intervention in healthcare - we all have or will use medication 3) The staggering prevalence & consequences of medical errors - 3rd leading cause of death in the US, almost 2 million GP prescriptions contained errors & approx 712 deaths from avoidable adverse drug reactions. 4) collaboration (instead of blame) & collegiality are key to prevent error & harm! An honor to welcome Dr Reham H. Negmeldin, Assistant Executive Director Quality HHQI-HMC who delivered an interesting & thought provoking presentation on medication error origins starting with the poignant reminder that " to Err is human" and then expertly describing how faulty systems, processes, conditions, as depicted in the "Swiss Cheese Model," are usually to blame for most workplace errors incl approx 250,000 annual ADR deaths! Her question "why are managers & colleagues quick to blame people instead of addressing latent conditions that lead to mistakes " elicited interesting comments! Concluded by emphasizing the importance of recognizing & applying effective error reduction principles, e.g sociotechnical systems, simplifying tasks, standardization, “Teach-back”, PDSA, capturing & mitigating errors before they cause harm. Great pleasure to welcome Ms Ayat Kadhi Lecturer, UDST & PhD Candidate who highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in reducing communication breakdown & improving patient care in her impactful presentation. She recommended communication protocols (SBAR), technology, CPD, monitoring & feedback in enhancing interdisciplinary collaboration & reducing gaps in patient care. Very appreciative of the engaged attendees & my dedicated CPD Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar colleagues. Don't miss Session 2 #Rootcauses; May 20th 2024. Click https://lnkd.in/degXqXky to register! Levels of care in the medical services Levels of care in the medical field relate to the complexity of medical cases, the types of conditions treated by physicians, and their areas of expertise. Let's delve deeper into these levels within Iranian medical facilities. Primary care involves your main healthcare provider, whom you visit for issues like sudden illnesses, injuries, screenings, or to manage care across various specialists. Secondary care focuses on specialized care provided by specialists such as oncologists, cardiologists, and endocrinologists. Tertiary care represents an advanced level of specialized care offered within a hospital setting or through online diagnostic or advisory services, utilizing virtual intelligence under remote circumstances. In Iran, medical tourists can access top-notch curative services at the tertiary level with over 99% accuracy and reasonable prices in Avan Advanced Medical Center. Plus Persia Group is the rappresentative of Avan Advanced Center in Iran in the field of medical tourism service. #PlusPersiaGroup #MedicalTourism #IranAdvancedDiagnosis #IranTertiaryLevelHealthCare
