We're working to enable NZ’s #energyfuture - a redistribution of power away from reliance on a central grid, towards increased community and consumer agency and control. Ngā mihi to the Environment Committee for inviting us to respond to a petition from 350 Aotearoa urging the Government to release a strategy on community energy generation and storage. Anna Kominik spoke to our recent regional resilience, innovation and competition work (the Northland review, Power Innovation Pathway and Energy Competition Task Force), following our written submission on how we’re updating the regulatory settings to enable community generation. How much do you know about District Heating and Cooling? 🔥 ❄ In the #EuropeanUnion, 40% of all the natural gas consumed was used to generate heat. Decarbonising this sector is vital to reach the #GreenDeal goals. District #Heating and #Cooling (#DHC) provides an efficient solution to this problem. By using local heat sources and renewable energy to circulate hot water through pipes in a district, DHC can not only reduce the carbon footprint of the EU but also provide an answer to the dependence on imported fuels and price volatility. If you like energy-related topics, the Euroheat & Power/ DHC+ Platform Market Outlook 2024 is an interesting and much-recommended reading! 👉 https://lnkd.in/e_Gi8tBi

On June 26th, the WindEurope Board Election will take place. Port Esbjerg has put forward my candidacy. If elected, I will work to ease the conditions for the industry. We need to establish European standards for onshore projects 💨 As new industries have appeared and evolved over the last decades due to the green transition, European member states have increased their collaboration across borders. This collaboration extends both in terms of trade and investments, but also in agreeing on the best way to prosper and grow towards a greener future 🌱 While we have developed frameworks and initiatives for creating a healthy balance between new offshore projects and compensation for existing activities when establishing wind farms, we lack the sufficient framework for onshore activities. ❌ It is not viable for the future that the erection of turbines onshore is handled on a case-by-case basis with a lack of predictability. Developing and implementing common standards at the European level for establishing onshore activities is crucial. Not only will this increase incentives to invest in projects, but also it will create more transparency and predictability for public decision-makers and local citizens. Succeeding with the green transition is non-negotiable. But we need to create clarity about a green future, where our society as a whole move in the same direction 🌬

Congratulations to the members of the European Parliament newly elected to the #ITRE committee. It will be on you to shape the legal framework towards a CO2 emission free European industry. An Industry that will express thought leadership and offer export potential to European products (and with it jobs and perspective for many Europeans). Keep the #heating and #cooling industry in mind. It is deeply rooted in Europe and needs your support to continue to thrive. 🌍 The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) program from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) funds clean energy and energy efficiency projects for thousands of state, tribal, and local governments across the country. 🌱 Emerald Cities Collaborative (ECC) is helping lead the EECBG Blueprint Cohorts, which support EECBG-eligible entities—local, state, and tribal governments—with technical training to build capacity. The Blueprint Cohorts equip local government staff with the knowledge and tools to design or execute their EECBG projects more effectively. We're proud to be leading the workforce development cohort. Today, a highly productive meeting took place regarding CBAM issues for Ukraine with the Energy Community. The key takeaway is the necessity for Ukraine to develop a comprehensive decarbonization roadmap following Article 2, 6(c) of the CBAM Regulation. This roadmap should be synchronized with the ongoing review of the Ministry of Environment's long-term low-carbon development strategy, which encompasses ETS establishment matters and other national strategic documents. Additionally, exploring avenues for securing free allowances for the energy sector within the forthcoming ETS framework is crucial and I hope that soon we can provide a preliminary assessment on that as well.
