At the AGDA Awards at National Gallery of Victoria last week my company won 3 Distinctions in Brand, Spatial and Packaging, and a Merit in Design Crafts. These two projects celebrate design that connects to place through story, craft and materiality. I’m humbled to receive 4 awards for 4 entries in the peak awards representing Australian communication design. As a regionally-based female founder the path is rarely straightforward. But to sit amongst only 5 companies recognised with 3 or more trophies, this one is special. It's a space usually reserved for big city, traditional and multinational agencies with big teams. Much gratitude to the judges, my incredible project teams, and most importantly my clients whose trust and collaboration make this work possible. Congrats to all finalists and winners. In rebranding Shipwrights Arms craft and storytelling are utilised to re-engage with community and history. Contemporary uses of traditional crafts like sailmaking, sign painting, and metalwork connect to the pub’s 177-year legacy in a memorable brand experience that encourages word of mouth. Taylor & Smith x Analiese Gregory Honey Gin celebrates Tasmania’s botanical provenance through the ultimate craftsmen: bees. Packaging, like product, champions beeswax’s curious texture, comforting scent and variable colour. Almost 5 years on from founding my company I recognise commonalities in my most celebrated projects. Success comes through research, strategy-led original positioning and distinctive characteristics. The best ideas are grounded in place and context. Design has such power to elevate beyond aesthetics—weaving meaning through storytelling adds value for audiences. I do this through sense and feeling. In our new AI world, where creativity risks becoming increasingly uniform, it's the brave, singular ideas, delivered with human warmth and tactility that stand out and invite people to connect.
