In this demonstration a Titan-40 40Ah LTO battery is used to start an Alouette II Helicopter. The helicopter was started 4 times without charging the battery. These LTO batteries has an advanced battery management system managing the cells and ensuring the batteries extraordinary performance and long cycle life. Ryan XV-5 was one of several planes attempting to produce an aircraft that can land like a helicopter and fly like a jet. 2 prototypes were built, with 1st being flown in May 1964 and tests continuing until 1971. The plane successfully proved the concept of ducted lift fans, and helped in better understanding of VTOL (Vertical Take Off and Landing) aircraft operation. Propelled by 2 11.8kN J85 turbojets from General Electric. GE also provided lift fans, 2 bigger X353-5 in the wings, and one smaller in the nose. Its legacy goes beyond VTOLs. Combination of turbojet and high-diameter fan pawed the way for TF-39 - GE's first high bypass ratio engine that was put under the wings of colossal C-5 Galaxy. TF-39 is better known thanks to its civilian derivatives - #cf6, still flying and not willing to retire anytime soon, and #lm2500 and #lm6000 marine and industrial gas turbines. VerdeGo Aero has been awarded a $1.9M Sequential Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase II Tactical Funding Increase (TACFI) contract with the United States Air Force to build and test the first prototype VH‑3 (185 kW) hybrid-electric powerplant that conforms to a production-intent configuration. The award was issued by the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center Mobility Directorate (AFLCMC/WLM) in cooperation with AFWERX, supported by the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL). The contract will result in the completion and trialing of the first production VH‑3 hybrid powerplant that builds on refinements from full-scale prototypes operational since 2020. Following the testing of this version, VerdeGo will have the capability to deliver small volumes of hybrid power sources to clients requiring energy for their ground and flight test programs. Another good find by Gary Vermaak. This listing of eCTOL aircraft that look to be “coming soon” includes the Pipistral Velis Electro that is already certified. The others not on the list that I would include are: 1. ACS SORA-e 2. Aura Aero Integral 2. Heart Aerospace ES-19/30 3. Regent Craft Viceroy / Monarch 4. Volt Aero Cassio 1 The General Aviation / Personal Air Vehicle market is not insignificant and as the article points out the impact on the environment is also not something to overlook. The maintenance cost (fueling/electri motor overhaul) should be a big positive while the replacement of the batteries and initial cost look to be about the same as other GA / regional aircraft. Russian engine maker unveils cutting-edge aircraft engine "The state-of-the-art 177S engine for tactical aircraft boasts improved characteristics and is of the fifth generation class," the press service said ZHUHAI, November 12/ The United Engine Corporation (UEC) has unveiled the fifth generation of its 177S engine at the Airshow China 2024, the company’s press service says. "The global premiere of the high efficiency fifth generation 177S engine, which increases the flight range of tactical aircraft, will take place in China. The state-of-the-art 177S engine for tactical aircraft boasts improved characteristics and is of the fifth generation class," the press service said. The engine's improved fuel consumption rate in all operating conditions reduces costs, UEC said. "Furthermore, the engine supports the increased power consumption for electronic systems of modern airplanes. The powerplant also increases their flight range," the corporation noted. UEC also showcases full-size mockups of new AL-31FN Series Five and SM-100 engines to foreign partners. "The engines presented in China have several characteristics marking them as fifth generation. Furthermore, breakthrough engineering solutions enable their optimization to meet customer requirements and expand the set of options. An indisputable advantage of Russian engines is the opportunity to upgrade prior generation engines to the cutting-edge version during the overhaul.
