🧐 #HeatNetworks poised for growth to supply 20% of UK's heat by 2050, eyeing a massive 35,000-strong job boom. This is estimated at a £60-£80 billion investment forecasted to transform #LowCarbon heating, backed by government and industry synergy. But this requires a workforce with the right skills for seamless deployment across UK towns and cities. The Heat Networks Industry Council has commissioned a survey of the sector's current skills to support achieving that ambition. The target is ambitious, yet attainable with a blended focus on technology, upskilling, and economic growth. And yes, it means job diversity, from engineers to strategists. 🛠️📊 #HeatVision2030 #SustainableJobs #ClimateAction

🌞⚡ Unlocking the Clean Energy Workforce: Key Insights from Industry Experts The other week, I had the privilege of moderating a webinar for Clean Energy for America featuring an all-star panel: 🎙️ Megan Evans, Senior Government Affairs Manager at National Skills Coalition 🎙️ Gwendolyn Summers, Senior Project Manager of Workforce Development & Training at NYSERDA Webinar link: https://lnkd.in/gUwjAsG2 Together, we dove deep into the challenges and opportunities facing the clean energy workforce. Here are my top takeaways: 1. 🚀 The clean energy boom is coming, but a worker shortage looms. With 5-6 million jobs projected, we need to act now to build a pipeline of skilled talent. Partnerships between government, industry, and training providers will be key. 2. 🌈 Diversity isn't just a feel-good metric - it's a necessity. To fill the gap, we must attract women, people of color, and other underrepresented groups to clean energy careers. That means addressing barriers like transportation, childcare, and a historically exclusionary culture. 3. 🎓 Training must evolve to meet the moment. Employers are hungry for hands-on skills, wrap-around support services, and programs that reflect the latest tech. Agile funding and innovative delivery models can help training providers keep pace. 4. 💼 Quality jobs are the ultimate recruitment tool. Beyond just high wages, clean energy careers must offer benefits, advancement pathways, and a sense of purpose. Employers who invest in their people will win the war for talent. 5. 🤝 This is an all-hands-on-deck effort. No one organization can solve this alone. We need industry consortiums, public-private partnerships, and cross-sector collaboration to build the workforce of the future. But don't just take my word for it. Dive into the full conversation by checking out the webinar recording and let me know what resonates with you. ✨ Lighting the Way: Empowering the Clean Energy Workforce 🌱I missed attending this event live, but I just watched the recordings, and wow! Key takeaway: Building a workforce for the energy transition requires breaking barriers, engaging early, and leveraging global talent pools. Hosted by the UNSW Digital Grid Futures Institute, this event brought together students, academics, and industry experts to tackle a pressing challenge: building a diverse and capable workforce to drive the clean energy transition. From career pathways to education and solutions to workforce shortages, the sessions were packed with valuable takeaways. 🌍 A huge shoutout to the incredible speakers who made this possible: 🔸 Danny Kennedy – New Energy Nexus, Catalyst Fund 🔸 Jacqueline Crawshaw – Energy Consumers Australia 🔸 Rik Irons-Mclean – Microsoft ANZ 🔸 Dr. Hua Chai – UNSW Sydney 🔸 Angela Le and Hamish Teasdale – Student Energy UNSW If you're not yet familiar, Sharon Swift and Prof. John Fletcher have done some incredible work with DGFI - including receiving $6.5M in funding that they used to fund research projects to translate lab findings into real-world impacts. 👏 If you’re passionate about the clean energy workforce, I highly recommend checking out the recordings and upcoming events. 🎥https://lnkd.in/gjGtMGCW #workforce #cleanenergy #recruitment

Well that’s a wrap.. #WinR have been there through out, so what have we done and what did we learn - 💷 Strong support from the treasury for Net Zero and the Clean Energy Transition. 🌱 There was talk of a desire to reframe the climate argument as the greatest opportunity of this century. Net Zero Growth is economic growth. 💨 Fringe events focused on Clean Energy Growth were in abundance, MP’s, academics and those from business came together to discuss how the UK can unlock clean energy generation. As further details of GM Energy emerged, the government reaffirmed its commitment to this throughout the conference. 🛠️ the skills shortage and the creation of skilled, well paid and unionised jobs is high on the agenda. Discussions focused on how job creation, training and using subsidy and other tools can influence where jobs are created. WinR were in attendance at several skills focused events, learning how government could support those within our membership. 👷♀️it was recognised that there is an appetite for these roles amongst young people and a need to bring more women into the industry. WinR will of course be lobbying on this 🙌 📈 There was a message from business that they are crying out for certainty. Within the Obligation space and that of other retrofit funding streams, we know this is vital. As more details of the Warm Homes Plan emerge this gives us some hope. There was a recognition that government do not have the expertise. Business, academics and interest groups will need to be engaged to create effective policy. WinR will of course be making their voice heard...

The headline reinforced the article I wrote, highlighting the urgency of the issue. How can the energy sector shift this narrative? But will the energy sector truly change this narrative? Despite its potential, there are concerns that the benefits may not reach those most in need, and the creation of new jobs might not keep pace with the growing demand. This could mean that the scramble for limited opportunities continues, leaving many still struggling to find employment. #JobMarketCrisis #EnergySectorImpact #EmploymentInequality #SustainableGrowth #EconomicChallenges #WorkforceDevelopment #FutureOfJobs

📢Over 300,000 New Roles Needed by 2030! 🌍 This week at the Energy & Utility Skills Conference, pivotal data was released, highlighting a significant demand for talent in the energy and utilities sector. As the UK gears towards becoming a clean energy superpower, the sector needs over 300,000 new roles by 2030! That's a staggering figure and a timely reminder of the skills gap we face. Phil Beach, the CEO of Energy & Utility Skills, emphasized the urgency in his keynote speech, highlighting both the opportunities and the pressing need for a collaborative approach to talent development. It's not just about the numbers; over half of these roles will require low to mid-level skills, underscoring the importance of aligning national skills policies with industry demands. Mark Wild, OBE, also shed light on potential strategies to tackle this massive skills challenge, stressing the need for better recruitment, development, and retention practices. As recruiters, especially within civil and structural engineering, this news is a clarion call. We must focus on not only attracting talent but also ensuring equity, diversity, and inclusivity within our hiring processes. By broadening our talent pool, we can help meet these ambitious targets and support the UK's clean energy goals. Let's roll up our sleeves and get to work! 💪🌿 #CleanEnergy #Recruitment #EvolvingWorkforce
