A study out of the Keck School of Medicine of USC has found a notable connection between PFAS and kidney function. The research discovered that kidney damage can be tied to dysregulation of the gut microbiome. PFAS are regarded as “forever chemicals” and we know that they are “known to increase risk for a range of health problems, including cardiovascular disease, cancer and chronic kidney disease.” The key development here is that this study is finding the exact “why?” #Study #USC #KidneyHealth #ForeverChemicals

I am thrilled to share our latest publication in which we used #NMRmetabolomics to explore the metabolic diversity in obesity, to find different profiles and to evaluate their association with future cardiometabolic disease. #Obesity has become one of the major public health concerns in the last decades. The complexity of its pathophysiology, as well as its multifactorial nature, makes it difficult to develop accurate strategies to assess the risk of the future development of severe comorbidities associated with obesity. This highlights the need to use novel technologies and tools to better characterize this complex disease. #NMRmetabolomics, combined with #machine #learning is a powerful approach to find clusters of patients with similar pathological profiles within a disease as diverse as obesity. This will help in the development of personalized and effective therapeutic strategies to combat this disease. Imagine a child born with a genetic disorder. A disorder so rare that treatment doesn't exist. This is the harsh reality for families all over the world. Daily, mothers give birth to babies who will grow up behind the veil of a serious and life-limiting disease. At present, we know about 7000 different rare diseases, of which 95 % have no appropriate treatment options. When I joined Novo Nordisk in 2019, one of my goals was (and still is) to help more of the people who have been left behind when it comes to pharmaceutical innovation. Hence, we have expanded our research and offerings to cover more rare and ultra-rare diseases. For instance, by collaborating with Together for Rare Diseases; a multi-stakeholder platform bringing academia, clinicians, patient advocates and industry together. Hopefully, we can help reduce the alarming number of untreatable diagnoses. Rare diseases deserve more than rare solutions. #HealthCareInnovation #Science #RareDisease

A group of 72 participants generously shared blood samples before and after observing Ramadan fasting, allowing researchers to delve into its effects on health and metabolism.
