Day 1 of the 7th Meeting of the IPBES Capacity-building Forum Before sharing key points, take-home messages and resources/supportive- information, I must express that it was truly an informative forum. As an early-career researcher that has become recently interested in the work of IPBES's, this forum provided a simple, yet indepth understanding of the workflow of the IPBES, particularly in reference to their assessments and what these are. These assessments play a significant role in knowledge generation and supporting policy for biological conservation and sustainable use in preserving our ecosystem services. The importance of fellows was also highlighted as they play a crucial role in advancing IPBES's mission! See here on how to become a fellow https://lnkd.in/dFfe3rX4 An important point shared by one of the panelists, Dr Michelle Lim, was the role of fellows of the IPBES who contribute to intergenerational capacity-building and the incorporation of the different types of knowledge. These aspects are pivotal for transformative change! Dr Lim hoped to see more inclusion of non-scientists in the 2nd Global Assessment! Ways forward were to increase awareness about IPBES in society, and engage in dialogue concerning the IPBES. Tips to improve or at least contribute to IPBES work were outlined by Dr Josef Settele, another panelists. These include research to be: 1. based on IPBES gaps and ways to address these gaps, and 2. to build on successful case studies or topics Organizations or networks can share their work through the IPBES submission portal https://lnkd.in/dqMk2kjy Organizations and networks were encouraged to share what type of capacity-building work their doing in support of IPBES. Finally, ways the IPBES offers support for organizations and networks engaged in relevant training activities were: 1. assistance with electronic materials, 2. feedback on draft agendas and, 3. contact details shared to relevant IPBES experts

This survey by Invest in Open Infrastructure is a very helpful summary of a messy world of #openscience - some key takeaways for me: - the importance of regional and national research and education networks in Africa - an area for funders like Arcadia to consider - the resilience and innovation of Latin American diamond open access initiatives - kudos to Sistema de Información Científica Redalyc, Red de Revistas Científicas especially - the potential of collateral damage from EU digital legislation - grateful for the advocacy of COMMUNIA and others here - a relative lack of bottom-up support/innovation for open science in North America, given the strength of its research ecosystem
The 2024 Survey of Recent Open Science Policy Developments is out now! 🔬 This comprehensive report by Invest in Open Infrastructure (IOI) takes a deep dive into the evolving landscape of open science policies across Africa, Europe, Latin America, and the United States.
