Is relying on a third-party delivery provider helping or hindering your grocery business? The recent surge in delivery sales across the eGrocery market is being driven by deep discounts being offered by big players like Instacart. But are these numbers sustainable? Grocers should be wary of becoming too dependent on third-party platforms for sales, as discounts like these can lead to a "short-term addiction" that might undermine long-term growth. Instead of ceding control of customer experience and shopping data, grocers should begin shifting focus toward their own first-party platforms and build a path toward long-term profitability. More and more American households are turning to delivery for their online grocery shopping needs. Why? Walmart and Instacart are driving this trend with deep discounts on delivery through annual membership plans. So, what can regional grocers learn from these initiatives? 🛒 Reduced fulfillment fees can be a powerful consumer driver. 📈 Waiving pickup fees could incentivize higher order values or sign-ups for memberships and descriptions. 💡 Despite the surge in delivery, pickup remains the most popular and cost-effective method for grocers—and it’s projected to grow over the next five years. To adapt to this shift, read our updated blog post on the latest delivery trends: https://lnkd.in/gNr42X-f

A lethal cocktail: Rising food costs, a bad economy, and demand for convenience. Don’t worry. Instacart, DoorDash, and Shipt have a plan. Add the rising cost of eggs, beef, and other staples… …with an environment of economic uncertainty. What do you get? A historically price conscious shopper. Retailers have been fighting to get this customer in the door. Target and Kroger slashed prices across thousands of SKU’s. Online retailers like Amazon began accepting SNAP. While discounters like Aldi and Costco are just on fire. At the same time, grocery delivery has skyrocketed. 27% YoY growth in Sept and 28% in Oct. (Many reports expect this trend to continue for years.) So do customers want convenience or price? Well, they want their cake and to eat it to. Oh, and they want that cake 𝘥𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘥. Instacart, DoorDash, and Shipt are leaning into this price-conscious, convenience-seeking culture. Here is how they’re positioning to give consumers the best of both worlds: 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗮𝗿𝘁. -Expanded use of SNAP benefits. -Super Saver option with nominal fee. -Rolled out personalized deal circulars. -Fees waived for next morning delivery. -Partnered with Kroger fuel points and other loyalty prograns. 𝗗𝗼𝗼𝗿𝗗𝗮𝘀𝗵. -Expanded use of SNAP benefits. -Enabled multi-retailer price-comparison. -Implemented flash deals for free delivery. -DoubleDash: Multiple retailers, same delivery, no additional fee. 𝗦𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘁. -Began accepting SNAP benefits. -Free delivery on orders over $35. -Limited discount for annual membership fee. -Rolled out seasonal deals, such as $15 off a $60 order. Remember that delivery is still incredibly new. Delivery has a lot of innovation ahead of it. And automations are rolling out rapidly. 𝘋𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘪𝘴 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘵 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘳. E-grocery is not a trend; it’s a shift. And we’re still early in the frontier. For now. ——— 🔹 We drive velocity in Sprouts, Whole Foods, Walmart, Target, Walgreens, CVS, Kroger, Sam's, COSTCO, and lots of other retailers. 🔹 We grow brands on Amazon. #cpg #cpggrowth #retailgrowth #retailvelocity #omnichannel #retail #amazonagency #retailmedia #shoppermarketing #instacart #retailtech

📰 Ripe Report No. 05: Canseco’s Market Goes Digital with Instacart Partnership Canseco's Market, a New Orleans grocery favorite, is joining forces with Instacart to power its online shopping experience. With Instacart Storefront, Canseco's aims to make its extensive selection of fresh, quality groceries—including custom-cut meats and fresh produce—more accessible to the community, especially those who prefer the convenience of online shopping. This partnership not only signifies Canseco's commitment to reach more customers through digital channels but also highlights Instacart's broader initiative to support regional grocers, making it easier for them to offer e-commerce to their customers. 🛒 Impact on Thrivvy Shoppers: While this is exciting news, it's important for Thrivvy users to know that we currently do not feature pricing information from Instacart's platform. This partnership highlights the growing availability of delivery options for local favorites like Canseco’s, similar to last week's announcement about Rouses and DoorDash. However, shoppers should be mindful that products on Instacart may be marked up by as much as 20% from in-store prices in addition to the delivery fees you will pay. As delivery options expand, it's vital to stay informed about the best deals, whether shopping in-store or online. 💬 We Want to Hear from You: Are you excited about the convenience of having Canseco's Market at your fingertips through Instacart? Do you have a preferred delivery service when shopping for groceries online, whether it be Instacart, Shipt, DoorDash, or another provider? Let us know how these developments impact your shopping decisions and any preferences you have among the various delivery services available. DoorDash is the new Instacart. (If you know me, you know how badly it hurt to say that.) The truth is, DoorDash is the FASTEST growing grocery delivery platform. And we've been #BLESSED to form an exclusive pilot with them. There is less activity than Instacart, but there is also far less competition. The post pic shows how we turned DoorDash into a channel for one brand overnight. From $500/day to $2k/day - overnight - with a 5.77 ROAS. We can't do that with every brand, but DoorDash is definitely a contender. If you have a significant presence in these retailers, DoorDash might be a good option for you: -Albertson's-Safeway -The Fresh Market -GIANT Company -Grocery Outlet -Piggly Wiggly -Weis Markets -Stop & Shop -Winn-Dixie -Giant Eagle -Giant Food -SuperFresh -Save A Lot -Wegmans -Key Food -PetSmart -ShopRite -Safeway -Sprouts -C-Town -Hy-Vee -ACME -ALDI -BJ's -IGA DoorDash Ads is only open to conventional brands right now. But if you've got a strong presence across some of the above retailers... We've got a solid shot at getting you in. DM me for details! ——— 🔹 We drive velocity in Sprouts, Whole Foods, Walmart, Target, Walgreens, CVS, Kroger, Sam's, COSTCO, and lots of other retailers. 🔹 We grow brands on Amazon. #cpg #cpggrowth #retailgrowth #retailvelocity #omnichannel #retail #amazonagency #retailmedia #shoppermarketing #instacart #retailtech

It’s a story as old as time—or, at least as old as the last few months… Once again, the latest Brick Meets Click/Mercatus Grocery Shopping Survey reveals how aggressive delivery discounts from Walmart and Instacart are boosting online grocery sales—a 27% year-over-year increase—and presenting a real challenge to regional grocers. While regional grocers can’t compete on deep discounts, they have a different advantage: the personal touch. September’s sales data highlights how crucial customer experience is for retention. Customer trust can quickly erode when issues like order cancellations arise, so clear, empathetic communication during service disruptions is key. By offering proactive solutions like rescheduling deliveries or providing compensation, regional grocers can turn a negative experience into a positive one. This approach not only prevents churn but also builds loyalty through personalized service that big players struggle to replicate.
