The Prince Rupert’s Drop is a fascinating teardrop-shaped glass creation. Formed by rapidly cooling molten glass in water, it develops a compressed outer layer and a core under tension, giving it extraordinary strength. The bulbous head can endure forces of up to 40,000 pounds, yet a tiny crack in its tail causes it to shatter explosively. It’s a striking combination of incredible durability and delicate fragility—a dramatic showcase of science in action ―――――――― Follow Civil Engineer for interesting engineering content and job opportunities updates. ―――――――― Partner with us to reach millions of engineers on LinkedIn – DM or email us for more details: linkedincivilengineers@gmail.com! ―――――――― #CivilEngineering. #Engineering #STEM #Infrastructure #Construction #EngineeringLife #UrbanPlanning #SustainableEngineering #StructuralEngineering #ProjectManagement #BuildingDesign #ConstructionTech #EngineeringInnovation #EngineeringExcellence #FutureOfEngineering #EngineeringSolutions #EngineeringProjects #EngineeringCommunity #EngineeringCareers #EngineeringStudents

Since Christmas is almost upon us, I thought it would be good to share an engineering Christmas song that I wrote a few years back. 🎵 Silver scale, silver scale. It goes from 10 scale to 60. Civil En-gineering Tool that we use every day. Design sidewalks, city sidewalks. They must meet ADA. If we err then the lawyers will get us. People falling, lawyers suing Filing claim after claim. I fear class action lawsuit is near. Silver scale, silver scale. It goes from 10 scale to 60. Civil En-gineering Tool that we use every day. Design street lights, timing stoplights Turning green yellow red As the drivers rush through with impatience. Hear the glass crunch, see the cars scrunch. I hope no one is dead. Who’s at fault? Blame the poor engineer. Silver scale, silver scale. It goes from 10 scale to 60. Civil En-gineering Tool that we use every day.🎵 Merry Christmas, y’all!

We recently broke ground on Phase I of Austin Community College's Round Rock campus, the construction of two new purpose-built buildings. The buildings will increase the program space for several curricula, including auto tech, welding, advanced manufacturing, and HART (Heating, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Technology). With design beginning in September 2023, this expansion will accommodate the growing demand for these skillsets in the Austin community. #highereducation #communitycollege #structuralengineering Project Team: Architect: PBK Structural Engineer: Datum Engineers Civil Engineer: GarzaEMC MEP Engineer: Gonzalez Shah Smith, Inc.
