"Gaps in employment" are often a problem for the wife of a military spouse. My husband was in the Navy (now retired). We relocated numerous times over the years due to his position. His employment remained constant, but I had to adjust to whatever new area he was assigned. I learned to be extremely versatile, which is a positive attribute (in my opinion). I do not add many of my volunteer positions or 'odd' jobs onto my resume, because I don't want anyone to get the impression that I have never been able to focus or decide to move in one direction. A gap in employment does not mean a job applicant did absolutely nothing during that time. For example: In 1992, I sang the National Anthem for the Commissioning of the USS Essex. This is one of the small "jobs" that I never mention on my resume, even though it was quite an honor. If you care to see/hear, go to minute marker 13:17. https://lnkd.in/g8bKa7rP? v=R9a_JL3KlwE So, please understand. Just because some people have resumes that appear 'disjointed,' it doesn't necessarily mean they are unreliable or not worth your time and consideration.

Remember when the Peace Corps adopted the slogan “The toughest job you’ll ever love”? No offense, Peace Corps, but that adage is more appropriate for motherhood — a job that is ever-changing and frequently exasperating. #recruiting #recruitment #hiring #jobs #jobsearch #job #hr #careers #nowhiring #employment #recruiter #career #humanresources #work #staffing #jobseekers #hiringnow #business #jobhunt #resume #jobopening #jobseeker #vacancy #jobsearching #jobopportunity #recruitmentagency #recruiters #jobinterview #interview #applynow

🎄 This Holiday Season, Let’s Change Lives Together 🇺🇸 As a Local Veterans Employment Representative (LVER) for the State of Florida and a proud veteran myself, I’ve experienced firsthand many of the struggles our veteran community faces. Transitioning from military service to civilian life isn’t always easy—especially when it comes to finding meaningful employment that provides stability and a sense of purpose. But here’s the thing: the opportunity to work can completely change the trajectory of a veteran’s life—and their family’s future. It’s not just about a paycheck; it’s about restoring confidence, reigniting passion, and opening doors that may have once felt closed. To the employers, HR professionals, and leaders who partner with us: Thank you. Your commitment to hiring veterans and recognizing their unique skills makes an incredible difference. You’re not just filling a role—you’re investing in individuals who bring leadership, dedication, and unmatched experience to your organization. For those who haven’t yet partnered with us, let’s connect. This holiday season is the perfect time to think about how your company can make an impact by giving veterans a chance to contribute to your workforce. Together, we can provide hope, opportunity, and a brighter future for those who’ve served our country. If you’re ready to explore how we can work together to hire veterans in Florida, reach out—I’d love to chat and share how we can make this holiday season one of new beginnings for so many deserving individuals. Let’s continue building a stronger community, one opportunity at a time. 🎁 #HireVeterans #VeteranEmployment #HolidaySeason #CareersourceBroward #CareerSourceFlorida #WorkforceDevelopment #VeteranSupport #Leadership #CommunityImpact

BODY ODOUR AND MOUTH ODOUR HAVE COST PEOPLE CAREER OPPORTUNITIES. I have heard so many stories about how someone wasn’t retained after the mandatory one year National Youth Service Corps on account of poor personal hygiene. In one instance it was one of the brightest candidates that was let go. In another, it was a lady who was quite good at her job but none of the partners could bring themselves to address the offensive odour. Imagine! Something that can be easily resolved if addressed ends up being the reason someone loses an amazing opportunity. Paying close attention to your personal hygiene saves you and others from akward conversations, situations and losing opportunities. Looking good starts with smelling good. #persnalhygiene #lookgoodsmellgood #etiquette #executivepresence

Here’s an article about the Red Cross Summer Youth Volunteer Program here at BJACH, as told by one of our very own youth volunteers!
We owe it to the next generation to share our experiences and prepare them for their future careers. The American Red Cross Summer Youth Program does just that, by exposing teens to a variety healthcare opportunities and an inside look at the ins and outs of running a Defense Health Agency military medical treatment facility. Our public affairs officer, even enlisted the help of one our youth volunteers, Bresiah Ramsey, to take photos, provide social media content and write a commentary about her experiences with the program. "In addition to rotating through the hospital, I was also “voluntold” to help as assistant public affairs officer by my mom who works at BJACH. We had vacation planned and I would be missing the last week of the program. My mom’s supervisor is the public affairs officer and suggested a way to get the volunteer hours I’d be missing by “covering” the program from a participant’s perspective," she said. I made it to Bath! Trust me that's way more of an achievement than you might think but those are tales for another day. What was I in Bath for? On Wednesday, Richard Hilton and I joined Stephanie Hill on Radio Bath for a fantastic conversation about our CIC, What Makes the Difference CIC, that we set up to help Serving and Veteran members of the Armed Forces community, First Responders, and their families adjust their relationships, values, and boundaries to find their place in civilian life. Thanks Stephanie for a great afternoon. An Armed Forces career brings many benefits that it sometimes feels are overlooked or misunderstood in the civilian arena. Focus on support at the point of leaving for the majority is on job search and accommodation. What is overlooked is the emotional impact of leaving a wrap around career that also includes your community. It literally can form the structure of your entire life. Shared language, shared experiences, shared values, shared or anticipated responses. Recreating this in civilian life can be overlooked yet these are the things that start to add up to a sense of belonging and fit. These can be recreated, but this might not be a skill you have or have had to use for a very long time. It means adjusting boundaries, clarifying expectations and renegotiating relationships. That's what Rich and I at What Makes the Difference CIC help you learn to do. For you the leaver, and if you have a partner and kids, we can work with them too. You all leave this community and they may be struggling too. So drop us a DM, and let's chat because everyone deserves to transition well. It's way more than just a change of career. #whatmakesthedifference #earmworms #ArmedForcesCovenant #ArmedForcesCommunity #veteransupport #veteranshelpingveterans #militarytociviliantransition #serviceleaver

Considering a career as a military social worker can raise a lot of questions. It can also seem like the more you find out, the more questions you have. The career of a uniformed social worker comes with the expectation that you not only work with service members, but that you are a service member. This is different from someone who would work in private practice or with an organization that has scheduled hours and tasks, and typically stays in one location. It is different from only considering the best interests of your patient and performing social work duties. So how does someone learn what to expect? I found this old picture today from about a year or so from ending my NAVY time and 22 years later I took a glance back and wondered what have I accomplished since. 1. I’ve convinced all that great hair to find a new loving home. 😊 2. I’ve watched most of my children grow into their adult versions at this age and have amazing memories getting there. 3. I’ve trained and coached roughly 9000 individuals and cooked Gumbo for least two of those groups! 4. I’ve traveled to all but two states within my job roles. 5. I’ve assisted in the growth of several organizations as well as failed to help a couple. 6. I bought my version of Green acres. 7. The amount of stress it took for much of the above has given my forehead permanent lines. 😎 8. I was mentored, I was pushed , I had to face my own struggles: fear, ego, empathy, loss, rebuilding , trusting. 9. I had the pleasure of working with some amazing individuals….and some well not so much. In both cases I learned something of value. I have done some really cool stuff. I’m sure I’ve been loved, well liked and hated and disliked on my journey. But I still haven’t achieved my final personal goal, so I’m gonna keep pushing the envelope and when I look back 22 years from today. I hope I got to where I wanted to go before I go to where I’ll be as a memory! Keep pushing, your goals really are only a few feet more ahead!! #motivation #navy #goals #marketing #admissions
